From the minute we arrived, we were very well looked after. Two of us arrived (without a reservation) for my birthday dinner, and every table was occupied. Sam, the manager, informed us that it would be about half an hour before we would be able to put a food order in, and offered for us to sit at the bar while we waited or we could leave our name and return later. Sat at the bar we did, and we proceeded to order a drink. The bartender, Ryan, was expertly crafting cocktails and kept us company while he was mixing drinks for other tables. Although the restaurant was full, it did not at all feel crowded. The decor was simple but well thought out, keeping a casual feel to the experience. They are also dog friendly, so that made our pooch's night as well. We did not wait as long as expected for food, and when it came, it was oh-so-tasty! My friend is vegan, and she made the comment, "It's so nice to have multiple options to choose from." The standout of the night, however, was the Long Island Iced Green Tea. Ryan was able to make it less sweet as requested, and it stole the show. We're already planning our return for...
Read moreWas really looking forward to coming and eating here with my friends- however from the start we received really poor service and were ignored by several staff. We had to go in and collect our own menus and flag down staff to order food. One of our friends joined the table later and when ordering with a member of staff they didn't put it through for 30 minutes as had to come back and check with us. We waited over an hour for our food and when asked a member of staff when we would receive it they said that they would check and never returned. The staff are blunt and unapologetic- besides the young blonde girl who was super polite and understanding. All staff that are inside were standing around twiddling their thumbs seeming completely unbothered that they have a full house sat outside... when we finally received the food, it was adequate but was nothing memorable. Can't say that any of us will be visiting again which is a shame as I had previously heard such amazing things...
Read moreUsually a good foolproof place to eat Asian flavours. This time, unfortunately, let down by very average food.
Had the chicken donburi and a beef udon special.
Chicken was chewy, and topping consisted of wilted bok choy, some rather sad tasteless broccoli florets, radish, and an over hard egg. Tasted more like a stir fry that you'd make at home.
Special beef strips with udon were a real disappointment. Minced beef (not strips as labelled), fried texture, mixed with broken udon, swimming in chilli oil with stir fry veg thrown in. Lacking in Teppanyaki flavour. It tasted more like a spicy spaghetti bolognese than a Japanese udon dish.
Not sure if there has been a change of ownership or change in chef but the food was lacking.
The £15 for the donburi and the £17 for the beef special seemed unworthy. Plus £7 for a pint of Asahi.
Service was however welcoming and friendly.
Combination of disappointing food and price point means that sadly it's unlikely I'll be making a...
