Roobroo restaurant — Restaurant in England

Having heard very good things about this restaurant, I would go as far as to say that this was the worst meal I have had in an Indian restaurant. The majority of the starters that we chose were extremely bland ( laughable to be called a starter we’re the fried potato disks and shop bought mint sauce) and as for the mains, these were vile. My prawn main which was supposed to be whisky infused with garlic and tandoori prawns tasted exactly like a shop bought Italian tomato and basil sauce, and definitely had no spicing. When I pointed this out to the chef he then pointed out that there was some slices of fresh ginger in the sauce. Wow! What do you say !! Our other main, a lamb curry was so salty that it was inedible. We were offered another main which was even more salty than the first. We made a complaint and ate none of our food but we’re still asked to pay a bill of nearly £90. Heating would have been a nice touch too as it was freezing and we had to leave our jackets on. Kept spamming me with emails and text messages despite multiple requests to stop. Reported them to the ICO and the next email that came had an unsubscribe option. Blocked the phone number used for texts.

Had the jalfrezi but the sauce was watery and tasteless. When asked about my food, I mentioned this, but I got a lengthy lecture about curry sauces while my food went cold. Poppadoms came in threes (for four people) but at the price, we opted not to buy an extra lot. Dips were barely enough for more than one spoonful.

Lovely first visit for a catch up with a friend. Had been dissuaded previously as the menu was much smaller with not so many options. Now there was plenty of choices which were all tempting. We decided to have popadoms to start followed by the mains, a couple of sides and rice and roti. I chose Laal Mass Handi, a spicy Lamb main which delivered a punch and didn’t disappoint, filled with tender lamb and bursting with flavours. Surprisingly, the also served Wadworth 6X, one of my favourite beers which was a bonus for me! Overall, a very enjoyable meal in a pleasant restaurant with very efficient and attentive staff.
