Firstly, it's Grade 1 listed, and apparently the oldest building in Thornbury after the castle. That alone got me in the door. There are still hints of the past here for the keen eye - the courtyard out the back still has the bones of a stagecoach inn. Unfortunately, the rest of the decor doesn't really match, it's more generic carvery than Georgian town pub. I'm not sure Historic England would like the giant fibreglass swan sitting on the front porch. Staff were polite, other customers less so. But by far the biggest problem was the stench inside. The bar and all the seating areas smelled of acrid soaked urine. What happened here today?! At least it's dog friendly and has good ciders, that's a plus.

I held a hen weekend at my home for my daughter on 23rd April. I booked an afternoon tea for 16 people who attended. Sandra came to set up the table, stands, crockery, tablecloths, decorations and then the food. The table looked lovely and the hens all enjoyed themselves eating the lovely food and drinking tea and a few Prosecco! This for all of us was one of the highlights of the weekend. Everyone really enjoyed themselves. Thank you Sandra for making this so special for us. I am so pleased I’ve just booked another afternoon tea for Ascot weekend. What a treat!

Located in the quaint little town of Thornbury near Bristol, this pub and guest house offer a lovely, warm welcome. All the staff are very friendly and will go out of their way to help you out. They only have 3 guest bedrooms as this is an old coaching house. But the rooms are quite spacious and comfortable and well equipped. We only spent 2 nights there, but we were made to feel like part of their family. I would highly recommend the Swan to anyone wanting to stay around this area or wanting a nice drink in a warm and welcoming pub.

I am utterly disappointed by the afternoon tea I had at The Swan.

Even before we arrived, there were booking issues. We initially reserved a table and later called to amend it, only to discover the booking was for the wrong date. Had we not made the change, there would have been no reservation.

Upon arrival, service was terrible. The table for seven was too cramped, so we sat outside instead. The server helping us seemed uninterested and needed a manager for even basic requests. A poor attitude and lack of knowledge was a bad combination.

When the food arrived, there were multiple issues. The cheese and onion sandwiches had visible dirt in the spring onions. The mini quiches were grey and dull. Some sandwiches were fresh; others had bread so stale it was like eating crackers. The hair found in one of the sandwiches also didn't help.

The regular afternoon tea cakes were fresh but extremely dry. Everything was bland, semi-stale, and dull.

The accommodated meals also disappointed. We ordered two vegan teas and one vegetarian. Only two vegan teas arrived, and staff claimed the vegan and vegetarian meals were the same. When we asked for an extra scone, we were told the scones weren’t vegan. We had to verify with a manager whether the cakes were vegan, as they’d been served with non-vegan scones. They agreed to replace the cakes, but it would take 20 minutes.

The vegan tea itself was good, but the mix-up and disorganisation spoiled it.

Overall, the food was bad, the service worse, and at over £130 for what was meant to be a birthday treat, it was...

I would strongly advise avoiding The Swan at all costs. My Grandad had booked this hotel for my family and I to stay in for a family occasion in Thornbury. Upon arrival, we were given rooms that had been left open due to a supposed issue with the kitchen extractor fan, which made them uncomfortably warm. The smell of dogs permeated the rooms and it was clear that they had not been properly cleaned. The beds were covered in hair and the bedding had stains that I cannot even begin to describe. The communal bathrooms, which were not mentioned in any of the hotel's descriptions, were located down a corridor and through a fire door, and there were no fire safety procedures in the rooms or staff on site overnight.

Additionally, after we returned to the hotel after a family meal, we could hear live music from a band playing at The Swan. Despite not being informed of this when booking or upon check-in, we were told by the manager that they would be playing until midnight. The noise was so loud that it was impossible to sleep and after complaining, we were met with rudeness and a lack of concern by the hotel staff. We ended up checking out, booking elsewhere and requesting a refund, but were told that no one would be available to process it until the next day.

I have never encountered such a terrible hotel experience in my life. The staff were unprofessional, the rooms were dirty and smelly, and there was a complete lack of consideration for the comfort and safety of...

Brief description on 3 night stay cut short to 2 nights as unbearably noisy till after 12 midnight . Bedroom & windows vibrating with beat of music ||Good points - central location . Nice basic rooms for price ||Bad points - Fausty . Cluttered public areas with multiple domestic boxes & equipment. Excessive dog faeces in rear stairs & outside area. |Incredibly noisy live band till after midnight ||Attempted to point out excessive loud noise to Sandra (the manager)not available & later insisted she was there implying I was lying !!! |Breakfast not available until well after 9am ( advertised for 8am) & very chaotic service as large queue formed including lots of locals . Again Sandra states she was present at 7am serving breakfast which was simply untrue. I remember I was there.||Tried to cancel 3rd night as so awful due to the above.|Sandra unavailable again to discuss.|Bookings.com could not help as Sandra unavailable to speak to & confirm cancellation.|I never met Sandra although she claimed to be present & available for the entire duration of stay .||Requested refund for third night via bookings.com online due to excessive noise Sandra refused as stated I didn't speak to during visit. Which seemingly impossible as she wasn't there. ||What an absolutely Faulty Towers Farce !! ||Avoid this place unless you...
