If I could give no stars I would. I went here with my partner our 2yr old and his parents. Walked in at lunch time on a Saturday and it was totally dead, cold and smelly. The floor was so sticky like it hadn’t been mopped properly for a long time. We’d booked a table and they had set it for us but when we sat down it was covered in beer and food! The menus were covered in beer and food and everything by was filthy. I asked for the table to be cleaned and pointed out the broken glass on the floor. The server looked at the broken glass then just left it there! There were so many staff and barely any customers. Most of the clientele consisted of single middle aged men drinking on their own. There were several massive to screens playing sports which was totally overkill for such a small pub. A good sized eating area and beer garden were completely empty and very rough looking. The food was very disappointing given the price and did not at all make up for the fact that the pub was filthy. I asked for a kids mac and cheese and they said they didn’t have any but could do an adults one! We all laughed at how ridiculous that was and paid full price just so we could eat and leave as soon as possible. The adult portion itself wasn’t even enough for my toddler it was so tiny! I had a lasagne which was tiny and had virtually no meat in it. Others had baguettes which were massively overpriced for what they were. The garlic bread was obviously frozen and the food in general was very small and substandard for the price - the whole experience, and the food, was a huge disappointment to our entire party who had been here once before some years ago for Christmas dinner and it was lovely - has obviously changed management since then. Not sure what else there is in Thornbury these days but def don’t waste your time...
Read morePopped in for an impromptu meal with family, booked a table online as we wanted to bring a dog, and I have to say it was a great selling point being able to bring your 4 legged family the venue was very accommodating. In the end our dog stayed home because they didn't like the wind and rain. We struggled with the volume of choices across 3 menus and I think this reflected in the staff taking orders and the kitchen trying to fill them, we had one wrong meal delivered which ment one party member sat with no food while we ate ours and then we sat and watched them eat, not ideal but there you go it happens, we had another meal delivered that wasn't wrong but had been made to the style of the chef and not the description of the menu which spoilt the meal. Hence we didn't stay for desert and left early. The pub really had promise but it...
Read morePopped in last week not great at all, although today a complete change in attitude, met the new assistant Manager Katie. Felt very welcome, big talks of bringing this local legendary pub back to where it needs to be. I am excited to hear that things are on the up and that it now has a heart-beat. This is such a lovely venue, todays staff were very supportive and friendly and I felt very at ease. Great for food, functions, work, coffee, or a lovely pint. I also popped into the new GIN Bar area which looks fantastic! Expect to see a huge turn around at this venue very soon. Living in the local area? Pop in and support this venue as it's going to shortly become the heart of the community that the area is missing. Breakfast is a must for this venue so would be great see earlier...
