A beautifully cosy pub that makes you feel welcome as soon as you enter. I love the cosy booth-style seating areas and it was the perfect place to stop for a girly lunch with a friend. The menu is big enough to offer plenty of choice without being overwhelming and the food was served quickly, hot, and absolutely delicious! Not only is the food tasty but it is fantastic value for money too with both myself and my friend having lunch, dessert + a drink for under £40! We love the vibe of the Royal George with its toasty real fire, snug feel, friendly staff, and delicious food. We will definitely be visiting again and would highly recommend it!

Beautiful pub with loads of character, very clean and about the friendliest staff I've ever met! Great selection of beers and spirits in a very relaxed and trendy atmosphere, we only stopped by for a break and ended up ordering food, service was quick but I wasn't blown away with how it tasted. Certainly not bad but I wouldn't make a special trip to eat here although I didn't try every item so can't judge completely. What we had was great value though and presented very well. Will go back again if not for food but for drinks

We had the sirloin Sunday roast. It was delicious! The only mistake we made was having a starter, we had mushroom bruschetta and mango and chilli chicken salad, again.... both were so full of flavour and delicious..... however the roast dinners were huge and you get free top ups on the roasters, Yorkshires and gravy (not that you need them as portion size is already more than enough!) Our server Imogen was amazing too! 😄

If I could give no stars I would. I went here with my partner our 2yr old and his parents. Walked in at lunch time on a Saturday and it was totally dead, cold and smelly. The floor was so sticky like it hadn’t been mopped properly for a long time. We’d booked a table and they had set it for us but when we sat down it was covered in beer and food! The menus were covered in beer and food and everything by was filthy. I asked for the table to be cleaned and pointed out the broken glass on the floor. The server looked at the broken glass then just left it there! There were so many staff and barely any customers. Most of the clientele consisted of single middle aged men drinking on their own. There were several massive to screens playing sports which was totally overkill for such a small pub. A good sized eating area and beer garden were completely empty and very rough looking. The food was very disappointing given the price and did not at all make up for the fact that the pub was filthy. I asked for a kids mac and cheese and they said they didn’t have any but could do an adults one! We all laughed at how ridiculous that was and paid full price just so we could eat and leave as soon as possible. The adult portion itself wasn’t even enough for my toddler it was so tiny! I had a lasagne which was tiny and had virtually no meat in it. Others had baguettes which were massively overpriced for what they were. The garlic bread was obviously frozen and the food in general was very small and substandard for the price - the whole experience, and the food, was a huge disappointment to our entire party who had been here once before some years ago for Christmas dinner and it was lovely - has obviously changed management since then. Not sure what else there is in Thornbury these days but def don’t waste your time...

Popped in for an impromptu meal with family, booked a table online as we wanted to bring a dog, and I have to say it was a great selling point being able to bring your 4 legged family the venue was very accommodating. In the end our dog stayed home because they didn't like the wind and rain. We struggled with the volume of choices across 3 menus and I think this reflected in the staff taking orders and the kitchen trying to fill them, we had one wrong meal delivered which ment one party member sat with no food while we ate ours and then we sat and watched them eat, not ideal but there you go it happens, we had another meal delivered that wasn't wrong but had been made to the style of the chef and not the description of the menu which spoilt the meal. Hence we didn't stay for desert and left early. The pub really had promise but it...

Popped in last week not great at all, although today a complete change in attitude, met the new assistant Manager Katie. Felt very welcome, big talks of bringing this local legendary pub back to where it needs to be. I am excited to hear that things are on the up and that it now has a heart-beat. This is such a lovely venue, todays staff were very supportive and friendly and I felt very at ease. Great for food, functions, work, coffee, or a lovely pint. I also popped into the new GIN Bar area which looks fantastic! Expect to see a huge turn around at this venue very soon. Living in the local area? Pop in and support this venue as it's going to shortly become the heart of the community that the area is missing. Breakfast is a must for this venue so would be great see earlier...
