Our meal here on Saturday night was truly wonderful. The restaurant was full (but spacious), with a buzzing atmosphere - however all food was still brought out in excellent time.

The owner evidently values his customers and took the time to chat with lots of us. Many customers were clearly regulars, or had at least dined here before, as I overheard him recalling to their last visits. This is a great sign that the quality we experienced tonight is consistent.

It turns out the chefs are from the same area of the Punjab as my family, and even knew some of my father's old friends! It was clear from the great taste that all dishes had been made from scratch, in the traditional ways they would be prepared in the Subcontinent. As someone born and raised in England, Punjabi food is one of the few ways I keep in touch with and feel connected to my heritage. I never anticipated a popular restaurant on Harrogate High Street would provide me with such an authentic and frankly sentimental culinary experience.

Other perks include: 1) a bar with a range of ales and largers, and 2) the offering of deals such as Meerkat Meals - sadly many restaurants had to abandon these after pandemic related losses.

In short, 10/10, thank you for the great, authentic food and a...

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A True Gem in Harrogate – Treated Like Family!

I had the absolute pleasure of dining at Salimar Restaurant in Harrogate, and I can honestly say — this place is nothing short of exceptional. From the moment I walked in, I was welcomed with such warmth and hospitality that I truly felt like part of the family.

The food? Absolutely incredible. I ordered a traditional desi dish, and every bite was bursting with authentic flavour, perfectly spiced and cooked to perfection. The fresh chapatis were soft and warm, the curry was rich and delicious, and the side salad and chutney complemented everything beautifully. You can tell they cook with heart here.

But what really sets Salimar apart is the people. The service was not just good – it was genuinely caring. The staff made sure everything was perfect from start to finish, and their kindness and attention to detail made the experience feel more like a family gathering than a typical restaurant visit.

Whether you’re local or just visiting Harrogate, this is a must-visit spot. Salimar isn’t just a restaurant – it’s a place where you feel welcomed, valued, and at home.

Highly, highly...

As a family (3 generations worth), we've been coming to the Shalimar for about 4 years. We come to Harrogate every year for my parents anniversary and the Shalimar is now part of the tradition. The staff have become part of the family, the food is amazing and keeps us coming back - but the service is what really sets them apart from any other restaurant we've been to. I honestly don't have enough great things to say about the owner and everyone that works there, they give you authentic food and an experience you won't forget. I worked in an Indian restaurant for a lot of years and became quite picky about my food, but the staff could not be more accommodating when I tweak dishes from the menu to my preference and it's always exceptional.

I came to this restaurant pregnant 2 years ago, with a 6 month old last year, and tonight with an 18 month old, and my youngest son is treated like an honorary grandchild of the restaurant - my little "Peshwari". You guys know we can't sing your praises highly enough, keep doing what you're doing and we'll see you next year! It's just a shame we dont...

Well!!! what can I say about this genuinely authentic punjabi restaurant.....absolutely Amazing, fabulous and the true taste of punjab. Jamil Asghar owner and chef was a gentleman and the perfect host to what turned out to be an evening to remember and led me on a culinary journey back to the heart of punjab. The food was truly magnificent. Often in so many so called Indian restaurants the food is altered to cater for the Western pallete, this couldn't be further from the truth at Shalimar. Chef Jamil Asghar stamps his humble roots on ever dish that comes out of the kitchen. His ethos is simple, cook with high quality top ingredients and don't retract from proper home good food. Nothing added, nothing taken away and you've got the Best Indian restaurant that keep customers returning again and again to sample the traditional taste of Punjab. I couldn't recommend this establishment enough and I am so looking forward to my next visit. All the staff were, polite, friendly and attentive. Thank you again for a trip back home to enjoy savouring my culinary roots.

We enjoyed a delicious Sunday evening meal here. Jamal, the owner, welcomes everyone like old friends and is happy to recommend dishes. We opted for three starters to share between four people, then three mains with accompaniments. An off-menu special of Katwa (slow-cooked beef shin with chapati in the pot to soak up the juices, then topped with garlic naan) would be difficult to beat. Friends visiting from Northen Ireland who use Aloo Paratha as a benchmark for quality declared it the best they’ve ever had. Friendly service throughout. If you’re looking for swanky surroundings then this probably isn’t the place for you - but if you’re looking for great food and service with a smile it definitely is.
