Smokin' Joe's Guisborough — Restaurant in England

“Average joes” I was really excited to try smokin’ joes after seeing some great reviews and amazing looking food. Let me start by saying the staff were great. Really friendly and helpful. I called ahead of time to see if I needed to book a table and was advised to do so, as it was a Friday and they’d get busy. She wasn’t wrong. When we arrived a few tables were occupied but most were already eating or had just finished. We ordered our food - “The smash stack” burger with onion rings, home made bbq beans. “The Star Dawg” with fries and slaw and a portion of “Rib Eye Of The Tiger” loaded fries. It then started to fill up. Phew! We beat the crowd….or so we thought. We waited around 40 minutes for the food to arrive and on arrival I was excited. It all looked so fresh and tasty. Unfortunately though..the food was lacking. The burger..sadly, while presented very well was dry and over cooked. The onion rings were sloppy and greasy - not crisp and crunchy as you’d expect. Same with some (not all) of the fries, over cooked..to the point of containing no potato. The “crispy rib eye” was more crisped fat than anything a meagre scattering of thin strips of some kind of meat like substance over a portion of fries with red chillies and Mayo and certainly did not warrant the price. The beans..well, meh. They were beans. They could have used more of the BBQ flavour I was promised but I won’t hold that against them. The Slaw was lovely. No complaints there. The Star Dawg again, tasty, plenty of pulled pork and crispy onions on top but as a whole the £55 price tag (this included 2 diet cokes) I feel doesn’t match the quality of food. Maybe I caught it at a bad time, maybe it was an off day. But sadly, I won’t be in a rush to visit smokin’ joes again. Premium prices, average food, worse than average wait times.

edit to response at no point were we made aware of, or offered any complimentary nachos, and as stated in my original post business didn’t pick up until after we placed our order. I stand by my review as I was left feeling very underwhelmed by the food. We had the standard “how was your food” once we had finished but at no point was the table checked prior to that. As for having food replaced, after the initial wait time, I would not be inclined to wait that again for part of the meal to come back out. I feel this one just has to be chalked up as not to your usual standards, people seemed to be enjoying their food but sadly as I said this was very average. As a result of finding out we also didn’t receive the complimentary Nachos I have removed a star from the rating. It also speaks volumes towards your lack of customer service and ability to accept fault or take ownership of clear mistakes by the attitude you are showing to constructive criticism. I can assure you that I will not be dining with you again, and I will be more than happy to share my honest experience with anyone who asks my opinion of your establishment. Take care, and maybe focus more on quality control and ensuring all customers receive the same service rather than looking for arguments online. My review has been honest throughout. We ordered 3 meals at 530 for delivery at 8pm which were confirmed. At 815pm we rang to ask when the food was expected and told it would be 20 minutes. At 845pm we called back and was told it would be another 20 minutes. I complained and was told that they were very busy and one of the drivers was off sick. I asked to speak to a manager and spoke to the rudest head chef who said if I was unhappy they’d just cancel my order. I said I wanted my food but would appreciate having a partial refund due to the wait. The chef then told me that if I wasn’t on the phone he could be making my food, and hung up the phone. I called back 5 minutes later and complained about how he spoke to me. He came onto the phone and said we had got off onto the wrong foot. He said the food still wasn’t ready to be delivered, and said he gets bad reviews all the time so wasn’t bothered about one more, saying I was threatening him. We tried here as we've never been there was 9 of celebrating my sister's birthday, we booked for 8 pm we didn't receive our meals till 9-30 - 9 40 we had 2 older children with us who became very irritable at waiting they were hungry, the food came out in stages with some of us nearly finished before the others recieved there meal, considering it's cooked fresh mine was cold and had to go back to be warmed but I can say I was offered to have another one cooked,the food was absolutely gorgeous the Mac and cheese is out of this world( and I don't usually like it) I found it a little pricey but cost of living is not cheap but like I said the food was lovely,the staff are absolutely amazing very friendly ,helpful polite they really are great and I cannot put into how great they are!
