Ah, Southbourne Fried Chicken—where lamb shish dreams come true, wrapped in foil and delivered with a side of audacity. On this solo jaunt through the UK, I picked up one of their finest lamb kebabs and headed to a mate’s place for the grand unveiling. Little did I know, my kebab would inspire such envy it nearly sparked a civil war in his living room.
As I unwrapped it, the aroma hit like a tidal wave of smoky perfection. My mate’s eyes widened—he sniffed the air and immediately knew he’d made a terrible mistake sticking to his stale packet of digestives. “That smells incredible,” he muttered, sidling over. The first attempt to “just try a bite” was swiftly batted away with a plastic fork. I wasn’t sharing. Not this time.
The lamb? Succulent and smoky, cooked to absolute perfection. The garlic sauce was bold and unapologetic, a bit like trying to watch TV with someone shouting spoilers in your ear, but in a good way. The salad added a crisp, refreshing balance, but the pita struggled—just a few more seconds on the grill and it could’ve been the hero of the story.
By the end, I was licking my fingers triumphantly as my mate sulked in the corner, the room littered with no fewer than 11 napkins—a true testament to this kebab’s glorious, messy brilliance.
So, the score: 8.7 out of 11 napkins. Why 11? Because that’s precisely how many you’ll need to survive the saucy, juicy onslaught of this bad boy. Would I trade it for my usual late-night pad kra pao back in Thailand? Hard to say, but for a kebab that came with both flavour and a skirmish, it’s an undeniable winner.
Well played, Southbourne Fried Chicken....
Read moreAll the local restaurants were either full or had no outdoor tables; important in these covid times. My wife and I decided to turn the clock back forty years, become hungry young students again and have a pizza and a chicken shish kebab. An uncomplicated snack in complicated times. The staff were so friendly. The doors were open(safer for covid)and the tables beckoned us. We sat down, watched the evening traffic drift by, familiar sounds of buses and students returning from campus. We could have been back in Edinburgh, eagerly looking forward to a weekend of parties and friends. The food was delicious, piping hot and well prepared. If only they had a licence to sell wine! As we left and said goodbye, all of the staff stopped to say goodbye and smiled. A nostalgic simple but tasty evening meal. We...
Read moreafter ordering a lamb kebab, 6 x chicken wings, 2 bits of chicken and a Dr pepper. The only thing I would recommend from this selection is the Dr pepper. I completed my order which came to a price of £16.40, the chap decided to charge me £17.40 and argued against it. I though I would be polite and pay the extra pound, so I decided not to argue it again.
after taking my food home and opening the packet I realised I had made a mistake and should of just had some dog food as it was the equlivant. The meat quality is shocking, the kebab was old and over cooked, the chicken wings were over cooked. IF you want a shop to get a fizzy drink I will recommend it. But for food...
