We just walked in without booking abut at 5:30pm, but we got a table for 4. Thanks for that for the staff. For me staffs were ok, but not so friendly. Of course they came and asked us about food ....etc. so was not any problem. Food looked very nice, it was an ok service. But was strange a bit that it seemed they did first the take away customers and just after the 'sit in' customers? 🤔We waited for our food at least 40mins and we were the first customers there - literally. We saw that people arrived for take away they got it but nothing for us, just drink. Coke arrived later after we asked it again they brought the drinks, but at first they forgot to tell us that: 'sorry the coke will come just later as we have to fill the mashine' or something. So my friend got her coke maybe after 20mins. Luckily she was not so thirsty. 😁 Toilette was very clean, and the restaurant everywhere was very clean. Lots of tables inside, no outside sitting, and i don't think so that is dog friendly. You can really see on the photos that food looked super, no complaining at all. I am not an 'indian food fan', so i can not tell you how amazing was it, for me nothing super (not so tasty, was not taste buds, flavor bomb or nothing waaauuu if you understand me) meat was chunky, thick in my food but maybe it is normal and some part a bit chewy. For my friends, it was enough good. But i liked how our food looked. So sure that first i was fine because of the sight of the food. So thank you for that. 😁 I did not drink any alcohol now, they have variety of wines, i think price is same as everywhere else. Food price exactly the same, i think mine was £14, and i had my food with lamb. We saw that a lot of people arrived for take away and came to eat in restaurant too, so i am quite sure it is a very popular place in Cockermouth. Compare to Keswick Lakeland Spice (i think the owner is same) i would say i liked food better in Keswick - the taste was somehow different. But this is just my unexperienced opinion and i ate there just once. I say it worth a try if you like indian food.

The spice club Indian restaurant. Cockermouth. Visited the lake district and stayed in Cockermouth as part of my gorgeous partners birthday celebrations. We booked a lovely hotel, and decided to try Spice club in Cockermouth Town centre on the second evening of our trip. We phoned the restaurant in the afternoon and booked a table for 20:30 We turned up ten minutes early to find the restaurant was full to bursting point. Not much social distancing going on here we thought🤔 There was no hope that we were going to get seated on time, that was obvious from the start. We were eventually seated twenty minutes late and crammed into an already very busy part of the restaurant, behind a pillar on a small table. The restaurant was very busy and the atmosphere can only be likened to eating in a rowdy pub. It was very loud and really quite unpleasant. Some of the clientele were already a bit the worse for wear due to alcohol consumption to say the least and one did become quite aggressive with the management. I did ask my partner if she wanted to leave but she pointed out that it was already getting late and finding somewhere else would be difficult at that time of night. So we decided to endure the cramped conditions and the football crowd like atmosphere. All in all, an experience we would rather forget, but on a plus side, the food was not bad. I had a chicken Vindaloo with Pilau rice, which tasted decent but it had been cooked in so much of a hurry, that the spices were not cooked in properly and it was actually quite raw. Not good for the digestive system! My partner had a chicken Bhuna with mushroom Pilau, which, surprisingly, she said was very good, so it was not a complete disaster. There was no choice of sundries. The only thing on offer was nan bread. No chapatti , paratha, puree etc, so this was also disappointing. I cannot say I can recommend this restaurant. It was a bit of a horror show, and personally, would not visit it again under such conditions.

Hard to be positive about this place despite the food being fine (if not above average) - avoid on a Friday night anyhow - they’re clearly incapable of dealing with the amount of customers. Close off a few tables, perhaps? Or take on more staff? Build a bigger kitchen? Whatever the underlying problem is, it’s a life-sapping experience eating there. Took forever to even take our drinks order. We’d finished them before they came to take our food order, anyhow. Had to wait half an hour or more for poppadoms - seriously 😒 Food arrived an hour or so later. By this time we were getting fed up, and even the decent food didn’t fix the mood... Inevitably, two requests for the bill (to two different “waiters”) didn’t get us anywhere. Eventually gave up waiting and had to stand at the counter and wait for the row between customers and manager over their bill (overcharged) to subside before finally getting our escape ticket. Only visit this place if your life is meaningless.
