Spice Cottage — Restaurant in England

Hopelessly slow service. Forgot our order a couple of times. Had to check on the status of our food, which was very bland when it arrived. Tikka paneer was overcooked cubes of cheese with carrots on skewers, with no flavour. Lamb dishes were very tough. Chicken tikka was very bland. Manager and staff didn’t know how to handle the poor service, no apology offered. Waiter was clearly ill, sniffing as he was serving our food. Other tables were also getting frustrated - shouting out to request to place orders or ask for an update on their food. Wasn’t clear if it was BYOB or not. Signs said that it wasn’t allowed, but other tables were allowed to drink their own. When asked we were told that the rule had come in place in mid Feb and other guests weren’t aware. We were then permitted to drink our own drinks (after we had already ordered two rounds). Either apply and enforce the rule or leave it as BYOB. One of the worst places to eat... the main waiter was rude, blunt, unfriendly, we ordered our food to be all served together this came n 3 stages the main meal first , no rice , then the starters arrived still no rice to accompany the main dishes, no serving spoons given, to serve, then when all the food did eventually turn up it was standard, still the main waiter needs to go on a customer service course, even if he is the owner? then they asked the other family if they had enjoyed their meal they did not ask us, then he took away my drink before i finished it, the other waiter did ask if i had enjoyed my meal i said not really and gave him the reasoning, he did say it was hard getting all the order together although what i did respond was if you order a meal you would expect the accompaniments to be delivered at the same time, this Waiter had a lovely warm nature shame about the other waiter we definitely felt unwanted even though they took...

Surprised by the good reviews! We were staying near Cheddar and decided to have a take away on the last night. Online ordering was easy, this was by far the best part of the meal. We collected the order and travelled the 5 miles back to where we were staying, only to find that 2 of the 5 meals we ordered were incomplete. We called them straight away, there was no apology for the inconvenience, just a matter of fact "we will deliver it to you", it arrived an hour after we collected the meal, cold and looked like it had been thrown about. The food itself was swimming in grease and tasteless. This is not a good representation of Indian food, I can only guess the "award winning dishes" were won some years ago. I also saw whilst waiting in store that they had a certificate displayed for outstanding customer service from 2008, It's definitely gone downhill since then. Go somewhere else if you want a...
