The restaurant itself? Lovely and clean. We were seated quickly and got our drinks order in right away—complete with water and glasses of ice. Small detail: no ice arrived. Had to ask again. Not the end of the world, but it set the tone.
Starters were next. Two showed up, one didn’t (Olives—luckily we didn’t get charged for these.) We didn’t chase it down because my friend wasn’t fussed, and honestly, our waitress had the energy of a moody teenager forced to do chores, so we let it slide. She even whisked away cutlery but didn’t replace it with the right ones. Another ask, another sigh.
Then came the mains. At last, the cutlery arrived too—hallelujah! Time to dig in. Sadly, my chicken was dry enough to warrant a saw, not a knife. Worse, the “cheese” sauce was the blandest thing I’ve ever tasted. I’m convinced no actual cheese went near that pan. Thank goodness for table salt. The new potatoes looked the part—crispy, golden—but fooled me twice: no seasoning. Nada.
My friend’s steak was passable when warm, but as it cooled, it turned into chewy leather. Dry steak + dry potatoes = a desert on a plate. No sauces offered either. She drowned her plate in salt and the sad decorative smear of brown sauce just to survive the meal. She said her mouth felt like she’d been licking carpet all night—accurate.
Our third friend had cheesy pasta. She agreed: sauce = bland. Luckily she struck gold with melted cheese on top, so she stirred that in for some salvation. Do these Italians not season their food?!
When our moody waitress came to collect plates, she actually asked my friend twice why she’d left so much food. Friend gave a polite “I got full,” but Miss Interrogation wasn’t satisfied. So I jumped in: “The sauce was bland.” Waitress: “It’s a cheese sauce.” Me: “I didn’t taste any cheese.” Her: “So what did you taste?” Me: “Nothing.” Brutal, but true. (To be fair, I did compliment the salad, which was the best part of the meal.) She promised to tell the chef, came back with dessert menus, and said “the chef says sorry” with all the warmth of a tax auditor.
Dessert time. I ordered apple tart with ice cream. It was fine, but I could barely taste apple through the alcohol she flambéed it with. Honestly, I half-expected her to fling the flaming booze in my face given her mood. My friend had the brownie, and oh boy—that was comedy gold. A dense, chewy slab of cocoa, three-quarters just tough, one-quarter completely unchewable. It was clearly microwaved and left to fossilize. The waitress came over, banged on it with a spoon (I think she caught us laughing), and announced: “It’s the ice cream that makes it hard.” I had to bite my tongue not to burst out laughing—easily the funniest excuse I’ve ever heard.
In the end, the whole experience was dry, bland, and made worse by a server who seemed allergic to customer service. She either needs training, a pep talk, or a different career path. Fake it till you make it, honey!
Final verdict? My time and money are too valuable to spend on cardboard chicken and a side of teenage attitude. I’ve been to Piazza twice and loved it. Tried Spuntinos once—and hated it. Should’ve stuck...
Read moreCould not recommend Spuntino enough! First time visiting, having passed it several times since it’s opening, we thought we’d give it a try. So glad we did. It’s hands down the best restaurant in Amesbury! We came for a family birthday Meal and Spuntino made it really special. The effort they went to to decorate our table and celebrate the birthday was second to none. We were so blown away. The staff are incredibly professional and are some of friendliest staff I’ve even encountered in the hospitality sector. Without doubt. They are never far so it makes asking for more drinks, ordering more food and asking for the check effortless. The menu is fantastic, there really is so much choice. Spuntino catered well for our party which included vegan, vegetarian and gluten free guests. Very accommodating. There were also plenty of choices for guests with dietary requirements. One of our guest said the fish was incredible and tasted super fresh. The pasta was cooked to perfection. We sadly didn’t check out the dessert menu because we were carrying on the birthday celebrations with cake afterwards. But if the dessert menu is anything like the starter and mains menu you’ll be spoilt for choice! The drinks, particularly the Cocktails and Mocktails, were delicious. Beautifully presented (as was the food) with fresh fruit. The restaurant itself boats a great atmosphere. You can comfortably chat in a small or large group. The tables aren’t too close together or cramped. The décor is quirky. Comfortable seating( Chairs have back support). All tables were easily accessible. The food is reasonably priced given the quality of the food. We spent between £25 and £30 per person for a starter, a main and a drink. I honestly could not recommend a visit to Spuntino enough. I will absolutely 100% will be visiting again in the near future. Thank you Spuntino for a wonderful evening. Here’s just a handful of photos of my food and drinks! Wish I’d captured the rest to show you the variety! Thank you! I wish you all the...
Read moreI had the pleasure of dining at Spuntino Italian Restaurant recently, and the entire experience was outstanding. This cute Italian restaurant provides a rare true sense of Italy. The Spuntino is warm and inviting, with rustic decor and soft lighting that create a cozy atmosphere. One of the female staff were incredibly welcoming and attentive, making us feel comfortable and well look after, I ask for her name and if my brain survives me right her name was klevina whenever you have chance to visit this cosy Italian restaurant make sure you ask this hard working young lady and she will do anything to make sure you have the best possible experience at Spuntino. In relation to food, it was only amazing. We began with the bruschetta was excellent. crunchy and covered in fresh, flavorful tomatoes and basil. For the main dish, I chose the traditional carbonara pasta, and It was not let down. Pasta was well cooked, and The creamy, thick sauce without being overpowering. Overall, Spuntino overtook all expectation I had. They obviously take great care in using traditional cooking methods and high-quality ingredients. Anyone searching for a true Italian dining experience should definitely check out this restaurant, in my opinion. I will most certainly be back soon! Thanks a lot for the wonderful...
