Sugar Shack Bakery — Restaurant in England

I decided to eat here last week as Costa was busy. Unfortunately the vegan cinnamon cake was disgusting - dry, tasteless and a hair in it. I reported this to the owner, who denied any responsibility. Couldn't and wouldnt recommend - the other 1* reviews are correct. Plenty of other local and clean places to enjoy coffee and cake!

EDIT: The shop does sell cinnamon rolls (which they call cronuts)....someone else has even commented on how poor they are. The "owner" clearly has no legal knowledge and is throwing out accusations - at no point did I abuse anyone on social media. Furthermore, slander is verbal, whilst libel is written. So the owner means "libel". Sadly for the owner however, libel is a civil offence, not criminal - so the police wouldnt be interested, even if this was libel.....which it is not. I recommend the owner to educate himself/herself on legal matters before making such foolish comments and false accusations. or maybe just work on improving the quality of their product.....which would resolve the need for such complaints. Finally if an owner is going to respond to an unhappy customer, the type of response posted here is not the way to do it and serves only to demonstrate further lack of...

I’ve been a regular customer of this café for over two years. I used to really enjoy coming here it felt like a nice, friendly local spot. But lately the service and attitude has gone downhill. Numerous amount of time I’ve come around 4:30 pm on a Saturday to get a takeaway coffee only to be told the coffee machine has already been cleaned and turned off. In my opinion, if the cafe is open until 5pm that means customers should be served until 5pm, not that the staff go home at 5. Cleaning should start after closing time, not half an hour before.Takeaway coffee is a key part of your business people often stop by for a quick cup on their way home, playground with kids etc and turning customers away well before closing time gives a really poor impression and makes regulars feel unwelcome.

I’ve also noticed that the new staff don’t seem to care much. When the owners are there, everything is great everyone works properly and the service is good. But when they’re not, it’s a completely different story.

It’s really disappointing, because I’ve supported this place for years, now I honestly don’t feel like coming...

Firstly I would like to thank you for your help getting my cake to the car, I did manage to get it to the restaurant in one piece. Although the cake did look nice it wasn’t exactly what I expected. I think there was a bit of miscommunication with the order. When I ordered it in the shop I asked for a 1 tier cake that was lemon sponge, with haribo tangfastics blue in colour and happy 50th Steve so when Elly text me about it being 6 inches I thought she meant the depth, when I got it I was a bit surprised at the height of it but thought it looks nice so it will be fine. I was very disappointed when my husband cut the cake as it was very dense and wasn’t lemon it just had lemon curd in between the cake layers and to be honest didn’t taste very nice. I will bring the cake back to the shop today to show you what I mean as to be quite honest we won’t be eating...
