In most respects an awesome place. They've got everything from a full surf shop, surf hire, surf school, cafe and restaurant. Right next to the car park and therefore a short walk to the beach. Also their website has a live cam covering the car park and local beach so great for checking out parking and waves as you head out. Be aware that the council car park gets seriously busy in the summer months as the day wears on so get there early!
It does charge a premium though. Definitely paying for the location and surfing theme which is the only reason for 4 stars. Food is excellent and worth the relatively high prices and 5 stars by themselves, but surf hire is definitely cheaper elsewhere. 5 hot drinks cost nearly all of ยฃ20 for example, although I will admit that 3 were hot chocolates with cream and marshmallows, but the prices are definitely London (or "Surfer") as opposed to "quaint seaside Cafe".
Staff were really nice though and helpful.
Ultimately, with me and 2 young kids (5 & 8) who wanted to spend a day in the sea, I thought that ยฃ60 for wetsuit and body board hire was quite a lot..., but we had a great time and will clearly make sure that on the next visit we come prepared with our own equipment.
We will also ensure we book early as the evening tables sell out fast and I'd love to eat there after a...
ย ย ย Read moreThis is a modern style beach cafe. Well designed interior which felt cosy and comfortable. There's a good size dining area with background music, and plenty of outdoor seating too. I arrived at 1100 while the breakfast menu was still on. Note: you can only choose from the menu in use at that time. I had a BLT bagel and regular coffee for ยฃ8.00. I couldn't fault the bagel; fresh crispy lettuce and juicy beef tomato, slightly crispy bacon, but still moist and bagel toasted, not hard, not soft. Their coffee too has a lovely rich flavour. Really good. They also serve beer, cider and wine with a decent selection available. The raised position of the cafe also gives good views all round the local coast. There is also a surf shop and they hire out surf gear too. I didn't notice any toilet facilities there nor any disabled access. Check with the owners about these. Definitely one to...
ย ย ย Read moreWe had been here two years ago, pre covid times and absolutely loved it. So much so we made sure it was on our itinerary this trip. Sadly though we were left disappointed. Sandwiches the only thing on the menu, however we were okay with that as it was lunchtime. Until they came to the table and it was clear they were supermarket bread with supermarket fillings inside. Cheese and chutney was a slice of cheese and a few dollups of chutney. Nothing to write home about. We spent ยฃ40 for lunch and feel we were taken for a ride. We donโt mind spending that amount for lunch, but not when itโs pre-sliced packet cheese. Sadly, it wonโt be a must on our next trip next year.
Walking up the road to the Jam Pot Cafe, we realised we could have got the same meal for...
