Overall a mixed experience. Service was good but the food lacked a little refinement. Went for a quiet family meal. Decor was nice, although compact. Got a table for 3 in the middle section which in all honesty, was a bit cramped. The chairs in the mid section were a bit uncomfortable. My son ended up spilling my drink on the floor. Food was good but lacked spice. Ordered samosa chaat, chicken pilipili and haryali paneer sizzler for starters. The samosa chat was a little dry, could have done with more tamarind sauce and some spicy green chutney, the haryali paneer lacked taste, again could have done with more green chillies in the marinade. This came with a little salad of red cabbage and carrot juliannes. The chicken pilipili was good according to the meat eaters in my family. For mains we ordered tadka daal, chicken madras and jeera rice. The tadka daal was too dry needed a little soupiness and lacked that smokey taste you would expect. The madras was not spicy enough and not enough chicken pieces. The jeera rice was a little too plain, could have done with some fried onion in it. We ordered cheese naan, lachha paratha and garlic naan to accompany the mains. The bread was soft but the lachha paratha did not look like the photo on the menu. It was whole wheat and you could not see any layers nor did it have the characteristic flakyness you would expect. The garlic naan tasted plain and did not have enough garlic on it. Good touches here and there, the mango and mint chutneys with the starters were nice but the containers were a little small. Could have done with some red chilli chutney. The salad with the haryali paneer could have been a little better, could have included something like green papaya and carrot fried with mustard seeds to add a bit of unusual individuality, make the food stand out from the pleethera of excellent Indian restaurants in Leicester. The hot wipes and mints with the bill were nice. Ok but not great, you need something to wow the diners to make them come back...
Read moreI chanced upon Tadka almost by accident and I rang to speak with them to discuss some food options. The owner A Singh answered and he was very friendly & enthusiastic and advised that orders take about 20 minutes to prepare and ALL food is 100% vegan - winner! I ordered the vegan chick kadhai, a vegan cheese naan, a plain vegan garlic naan and the curries came with a small salad & rice as well. They also gave us some pappad (poppadoms) with a delicious achaar (pickle). As promised, the food was ready within 20 minutes and I rushed to take it home.
If first impressions are to go by - the packaging and design was awesome! It looks so good and then when you taste it, Wow! Chefs Kiss - the food is DELICIOUS. It was so tasty, full of rich flavors and aromas and it was hard to believe it actually was vegan. Delicious. I couldn’t get enough.
I recommended Tadka to a friend who ordered it yesterday and his words were “BLOODY DELICIOUS”. Whether you’re vegan or not, try it. You won’t be disappointed. Amazing food, great service. We will be...
Read moreMy friend recommended this restaurant and we (4 Adult and 2 Children) went to this place for dinner. Both the children are autistic and we needed extra space to accommodate as the seating arrangement was cramped . The restaurant was nearly empty. We twice requested the waiter ( Yuvan) to join another table so that we will have more space . He refused, saying they don’t have enough staff and he is leaving work shortly. When I asked for the owner he said he left for the day. At last the manager intervened and arranged the table. The worst thing is the waiter accused me of being rude and asked for an apology from me.
Won’t recommend and will never...
