Tana Lounge Thai Restaurant — Restaurant in England

I don't normally write bad reviews but our experience here was not great.

It was my birthday so we came here as it was suggested on the buyagift website. We had a dining experience bought for us as a gift before covid and we decided to use it there. Which was obviously not welcome because the older woman who dealt with us was really abrasive and rude the entire time. She didn't give us a chance to read the menu to see what was included she just shouted at us "buyagift is this one" and snatched the menus back. So we had no idea what we were about to eat. The younger waitress was so nice, but the older waitress only seemed to be nice to the other (only 2) guests. When we were finished we were waiting for the bill but she also said "why are you still here, what are you waiting for?", we did buy another drink that was over the allowance of the experience and so she slapped £6.45 gratuity on top of that drink, which resulted in 1 drink costing £9.99. ironically we had more cash than 6 quid to give as a tip but seeming as we were forced to pay gratuity for rude service we kept it.

Despite this horrible experience on my birthday the food was good, couldn't tell you what we had because we didn't have a chance to read it. I have lived in Thailand and I was really hoping this would become somewhere I can continue to visit, because good Thai food is hard to find in the UK. I'm not sure what has happened to the once beloved Tana Thai. I’d like to start by praising the incredibly hospitable customer service, it's always been first-class. A special mention goes to the young man who served us, he was exceptionally friendly and welcoming! :)

Unfortunately, the food didn’t live up to the standard we had hoped for. We were regulars at Tana Thai’s previous location, and sadly, the quality seems to have declined since the move? The spring rolls were very thin, the chicken satay was dry and rubbery, and the Thai green curry was watery, lacking depth of flavour and containing very little chicken. The portion sizes overall were also quite disappointing :(

The previous restaurant was very warm and cosy! This new lounge place felt very different like it’s a new business all together. It didn’t feel like the Tana Thai we once used to visit. Just felt odd but it could just be me. I don’t know

Though the food wasn’t hitting the mark, we still finished our meals, we don’t like to waste food or give the impression that we’re ungrateful. That said, I’ve unfortunately ended up with a bit of a stomach ache afterward, which only adds to the disappointment.

It’s sad to say, but we won’t be returning anytime soon, a real shame, as this used to be our favourite Thai spot. I truly hope the team considers ways to improve and win back their loyal customers.

My wife and I used to regularly visit Tana Thai at their previous location. This was our first visit to their new venue. It was a Friday evening, and we had a reservation. Despite the restaurant being extremely quiet, we were told to sit right next to another family, even though 90% of the restaurant was empty. We ordered the classic Thai mixed starter for two. The prawn toast was overcooked and extremely greasy. The squid was rubbery, and the fish cakes were cold. I ordered a prawn dish with jasmine rice, and it was completely flavorless, very bland. My wife ordered the minced spicy pork, but it was so hot that it was almost inedible. I complained about the food, but there was no apology, just a dismissive "I'll let the chef know." When we received the bill, we paid the full price, and there wasn't even a mint or after-dinner chocolate. Every other Thai restaurant in Bedford is now far superior to this place, which is a shame, as it used to be one of our favorites.

Update to owners reply. And this is exactly the reason why we do not recommend this place. Very defensive response and the main dishes were not finished at all. Please don't lie, it's not very professional.

As for seating we chose our table which wasn't the one allocated to our booking. Yes we ate the starters but we were hungry and my review is that it was very disappointing. Therefore...
