After arriving at the arts bar we found the seats and tables to be wet and had no acknowledgment from staff members, having to ask for menus which started the terrible experience we had. After 15 minutes of waiting a slow and uninterested member of staff came out to give us our menus which they put down on the wet table ( no surprise there). Once we had chosen what we wanted to eat they came back out, chewing gum with their mouth open and had a tablet which they had difficulty using, even having to ask a member of our party to help them out which we found really unprofessional and showed their lack of experienced. After they took about 10 minutes trying, we ended up going to the tiny bar to order off a different tablet. We decided to pay at the bar to save time but ultimately wasted it as another member of staff asked what we had ordered (no communication at all). We decided to try and turn the heaters on as it was freezing but failed and were told they hadnāt been working in years. During our wait for food the uninterested staff member took a cigarette break in front of us, and tried to pet a fellow customers dog but didnāt receive a warm welcome and it was unclear if his hands where sanitary after when he was delivering food. When they came back we asked how long the wait would be and they said Iāll check and followed that by saying āitās pretty bad isnāt itā (baring in mind we had only ordered wraps and a few wings). The food was decent, but the wings were cold and dry. During our meal the member of staff didnāt know where any of the tables were and put food down on the wrong table even when the other customers told them it wasnāt their food. Lastly as we were leaving, we noticed that the members of staff were wearing a uniform from a completely different pub so maybe they shouldnāt be working there at all! The only benefit was the free dog biscuits and water which we were tempted to eat if the food didnāt arrive. We are...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI'm still reeling from my experience at The Arts Bar. What was supposed to be a relaxing evening with friends turned into a baffling display of misplaced authoritarianism. My group, a mix of adults with differing viewpoints, was having a perfectly civil, balanced, and respectful discussion about the recent assisted dying bill. Let me reiterate: civil, balanced, and respectful. We weren't shouting, we weren't arguing, and we certainly weren't causing a disturbance. Imagine our shock, then, when a member of staff approached us and demanded we stop discussing the topic. Incredulous is an understatement. Are we living in some kind of thought police state now? Since when is engaging in a quiet, mature conversation about current events, even sensitive ones, grounds for being reprimanded in a public establishment? This wasn't some rowdy debate that spilled into the whole bar. It was a private discussion amongst our group, at our table. The notion that a bar feels it has the right to dictate what its patrons can or cannot talk about, especially when it's entirely inoffensive, is frankly offensive itself. It speaks volumes about a venue's priorities when they seemingly prefer patrons to be mind-numbingly silent or only discuss trivialities. If a bar can't handle the faint murmur of intellectual conversation, perhaps they should consider a different line of business. This experience entirely soured our evening and guarantees we won't be returning. There are plenty of establishments that understand the concept of free speech and respectful discourse. Clearly, this isn't one of them. Save your money and your sanity. There are better places to spend your time where you're treated like an adult, not a child to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMe and my girlfriend got an evening cruise booked and we were not too psyched about it as it was raining quite badly at the time. We got an hour and a half to kill so we have decided to quickly grab something to eat. To be honest we didnāt have much expectations (mostly because we were both wet and cold), but gosh we were stunned by the interior when we headed upstairs. Itās just so beautiful. The paintings, the furniture, the lighting had created such a harmonious atmosphere. My girlfriend, whoās addicted to instagram and social media had gone into hyper mode and simply forgot how miserable we were 5 mins ago.
Then I thought to myself, this place is nice, so I bet the food is just alright. I COULDNāT be more wrong!!! The burger was basically one of the best burger I had in a pub, not to mention the chips that came with it, so crispy and fresh. With a pint of peroni, it was heaven on earth!
The whole experience was just so amazing that it managed to made our sad rainy day into a marvellous, but still rainy dayš
Totally would come back next time we...
