Very good first impression. Clean, pleasant, friendly with a fine range of real ales. They also do coffee and tea if that's what you're after.
I'm looking forward to getting to know it better once I've moved to Oswestry.
Edit: have been back a few times now. Still have a very high opinion of the place. Venison stew was excellent. The real ales were as good as they sounded - very well kept.
All in all, a great pub.
Edit: Now visit regularly, always a wide selection of beers, which can be bought in one third of a pint measures, so you can try several, even the stronger ones, and still have a sporting chance of walking home.
The pub seems to be more or less recovered from the Covid-19 lockdowns although the kitchen had not reopened. At the moment (late February 2022) they have retained mask wearing when moving around.
I also forgot to mention that the pub is very dog friendly.
2023 Edit: pub is more or less back to normal now, although the kitchen has not reopened.
2025 Edit: and I'm not the only one that likes it, the pub has just won the Camra National Pub of the Year award! Well done...

The range of quality real ales is outstanding with a varying series of guest ales including a dark real ale . We had a great Brass Castle Bad Kitty Vanilla Porter and on our previous visit we were impressed by the lovely dark ales .
The Bailey Head has outdoor seating at the front of the building . The entrance leads straight into the bar area with a variety of different seating areas along the front of the building and then running down the left hand side with a further space to the rear. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable- The Bailey Head is rightly a Camra Good Beer Guide regular and is a regional pub of the year . Well...
Read moreA CAMRA award winning pub on numerous occasions over the years, not to mention many other local recommendations. This small community pub has been flying the "real & craft" ale flags consistantly for years. It hosts the best selection of beers for miles around, with great staff & service to boot. We've been visiting this pub for the last 10+ years and its consistancy is second to none. If you're ever up this way it is certainly worth a visit & highly recommended. Duncan & Grace the owners are lovely people & great hosts. Highly recommended. Note: Food is no longer available, but the eating of food inside the pub, but purchased outside is usually acceptable. (There is an Indian takeaway next door)...
