We had a complimentary meal from this place, authorised by Holly, who was great, by the way. When we went in to have this meal, they got it wrong ... again. We had to clear our own table for starters. The food came and it was just about eatable. The chips were squishy and I had to use mayonnaise to mask the taste of them. The 'fried' mushroom that came with it was only half done and half raw, the 'fried' tomato was like a piece of red splatter on the plate. The peas were luke warm and the steak was too well done for me. I won't say what my partners was like but she had to send her steak back because it had blood coming out of it, she ask for it to be medium to well done ... as in NO BLOOD. This made her a bit queasy. OK they did send it back only to return it all chewy because they had put the same steak to re cook and returned it. I thought they had to do a fresh steak. We spoke to a member of staff in a grey shirt, who had NO INTEREST in our situation. A couple we spoke to even said they had to send their food back because their chicken had been reheated. The 2 star is only because of the friendliness from Holly a few weeks ago when she authorised the meal. Thanks...
Read moreAlways clean and tidy, it's more of a restaurant than a bar, and the customers reflect that. There's no gambling machines to play on or fun things for children to do, but they do have a TV and a fireplace. UK law 9pm no children allowed. Staff have never been less than perfect, and I feel safe with them. No terrible music. It doesn't get very loud in there or over crowded, which is why I love it. I also love that my food always tastes great, looks presentable, and I can order more cocktail pitchers to my table from the app. Better than most (tables are not sticky and there are condiments) There are a few steps and a slightly steep ramp to access the building. Since almost all Wetherspoons have the bathrooms above the restaurant, this one is no exception except there doesn't seem to be an alternative way to get up the staircase. There is a concrete back garden space that is up a couple more steps with benches and lovely flowers. There's a car park nearby that's a quick walk to get to, which is free during out of hours (always check!) and lit...
Read moreIt was OK. I had ribs, which were hot and we'll cooked with enough sauce. Chips were lovely, but the plate was a bit bland. Maybe a bit of salad just to dress it up. The pub itself was tired and grubby. Certainly didn't add to the quaintness of Oswestry on a wet March Monday, and more could be made of Wilfred Owen himself than one panel hidden behind the slot machine. The whole visit was spoiled by the bearded barman. As I was driving I ordered a tomato juice. He looked at me as if I was an alien, shuffled around and eventually found one. I asked for some Worcester sauce, same incredible expression, and was told "we don't have it" when I asked why he said, " it's not my fault I don't make the decisions around here". I asked a waitress, quietly, if they had some in the kitchen. She never came back to see us. Then the same barman went outside thru the fire door and either he or his friend had a fag, left the door open, and the smell wafted in to where we were eating. Sorry, but not...
