I was supporting an elderly individual with learning difficulties in Southbourne. The individual had bought a coffee from Wenzels which is next door to the Bakehouse. Wenzels has some seating outside but none inside. As the individual was sipping his drink the weather changed and it started to drizzle a little. I went into the Bakehouse and explained the situation and asked if we could sit outside under their awning so that we didn't get wet. There was nobody else sitting outside and only 2 people sitting inside, one of them being the chef. When I asked he laughed as if it he thought it was an absurd thing to be asking. I went on to explain that the individual had difficulties with their mobility so it would be helpful if he could sit under the awning (because it was just a few feet away from where he was sitting). The chef still refused but said he could sit there but only if he bought something. I turned around and left the Bakehouse commenting sarcasticly about how helpful he had been. If we had been allowed to sit under the awning it would have only been for a few minutes while the individual finished their coffee. Thankfully the drizzle eased off but the feeling of annoyance didn't so I have decided that because of the unhelpful attitude I experienced I will never visit the bakehouse again either for myself or with any of the individuals that I support
I would like to comment further after the owners response to my review. Southbourne has a friendly community vibe so I was surprised by the attitude of the chef/owner. The person I was supporting had bought a coffee. I had a sausage roll which was in a bag which was for my break when I returned to the care home. I made it clear to the chef/owner that the person I was supporting was elderly with learning difficulties, and had mobility issues and that he just wanted to finish his coffee somewhere out of the drizzle. He uses a rollator and I also have to take a camping chair with us when we go out in case he suddenly needs to sit down for a rest. It may seem unfair to some to review a cafe that I/we did not use but I was not reviewing the food/service/cleanliness, I was reviewing the cafe on the owners unhelpful & unfriendly attitude that I experienced on that day. It took me by surprise & I thought that it was...
Read moreSince my first meal at The Bake House, I have been back for more! I have experienced breakfast, lunch and dinner there, both take-away and dine-in, and the service is absolutely great. I arrived very close to closing time once and still the chef turned the grill and fryers back on to accomodate me! The food is fresh, appetizing and very well presented. The decor is fun, pleasant and inviting! There is a wide variety of hot and cold foods - English, American and Greek. Lovely selection of teas - including my favorite, Redbush tea - which I haven't seen in any other restaurant yet. The restaurant is very clean and spacious and I was so comfortable in the place, even after I finished my meal I wasn't in a hurry to leave - and lingered a bit! The staff is very friendly and very easy and intriguing to converse with. I definitely recommend The Bake House for great meals, great service and just an all around great place to be! 5 Stars 🌟 🌟🌟🌟🌟‼️ ~...
Read moreThe worst English breakfast I have ever had, tasted of burnt griddle which is what everything seemed to be cooked on, accompanied by burnt toast. The scrambled eggs were mixed by the milk frother - not sure what would happen if you have an allergy to eggs or milk plus milk frother not wiped. The place smelt of oil and burnt griddle and was smokey and the whole place was dirty you could also see through to the kitchen at the back which looked very unappealing . No health and safety sign visible. One man doing everything. The one star was for the orange juice which was freshly squeezed. Also saw another family of four arrive they sat down and were ignored so after 10 minutes upped and left. I’ve seen good reviews on here so I am baffled seems like they are reviewing a totally...
