Visited here at the weekend, very busy and the only seating available was outside which wasn't a problem as the weather wasn't too bad. We ordered 1 Churchill afternoon tea and 1 Vera Lynn afternoon tea. When it was served we noticed that some of the cake on the Vera Lynn afternoon tea was mouldy. We spoke to the waitress who appeared to be uninterested, eventually asking if we'd like another piece, which, obviously we did. When another piece was brought out, it also had mould on it. I have taken the cake to the counter to speak to staff who didn't appear to be surprised although I did get a mumbled 'sorry' and was provided with a different piece of cake that was made yesterday. When I've paid the bill, I've explained that we'd left the all the cakes served with the Vera Lynn afternoon tea as we'd lost confidence in the quality of them. No apology was made, no offer of a reduction of the bill was made, extremely poor customer service which was a real shame as the reviews of this place were generally good. For the poor service and mouldy cake received today I wouldn't recommend visiting this establishment and would recommend checking your cake before eating it.
