Lovely old building, had a quiet pint with the mrs and a great nights sleep, i definitely prefer this over the travel lodge. The service was amazing and the room is closer to town and has a warmer more archaic feel to it, we didn't get to thank the staff as we had to leave early but I hope they know how appreciated their amenities were 10/10 will definitely be visiting again

Great pub. We took over and the poor barmaid must have had a nightmare but she was superb. Lovely Gins, comfortable pub and a good atmosphere

AVOID AT ALL COSTS I only gave 1 star so I could leave a review - it doesn't deserve it! We booked in good faith x2 double rooms in March to stay at this hotel in June, we received a confirmation and the money paid taken out of our account the next day. Due to restrictions not opening up as expected on 21 June I called the hotel on the Friday before to be told that they had no booking (despite the booking confirmation and money debited). I sent 2 messages, one at lunchtime and one in the evening to which I had no response. I called the hotel on Saturday to be told the landlady would not speak to me but said to confirm there were no rooms available. I asked if that was the case, regardless of the fact that we booked through their booking agent, could we have a refund. I was promised that she would speak to her booking agent and call me back in an hour. No phone call came at all. I tried again on Monday (5 days before we should be staying there) without success so managed to find out who the booking agents were and their contact number. They shouldn't have helped but given the lack of responses took pity on us and managed to speak to her and obtain a refund which took 5 days to be returned. Not one apology for the disgraceful way we had been treated even though we had stayed there many times before but we definitely won't be staying there again and nor will our friends. We managed to locate another hotel to stay with. On our visit we were told by a few people that they had received a wedding booking so ignored those already booked in to accommodate them. We have other friends who book in there but would not do so given the lack of service or apology. Informing us that there were no rooms wouldn't be as bad if she had helped with the refund. In March she would have received a notification of the booking and was happy to take our money but not to refund it. I would advise people to be very careful when booking into this hotel as your booking may not...

Booked this through h*ls.com and tried to post this honest review on their site. They refused to publish it. I therefore suggest that nobody trusts their reviews as they are selective in what they publish, and therefore the whole integrity of the company is open to question. |Early check-in good. Nice big room comfortable bed. That’s end of positives. |Room faces busy main road with relentless traffic noise. Trying to get to sleep after midnight was impossible. Open window was at 7-8 ft high and impossible to reach to close. After 1am group of people sat down at the tables directly below my room outside and proceeded to speak, shout and laugh loudly until well after 2am. However traffic noise continued making sleep impossible. At 3.30am have not had a single minute of sleep had had enough. Looked for a way of closing window. Chair didn’t look strong enough to stand on so resulting in swinging cushion multiple times until knocked the arm of the catch up which particles the window but still pretty noisy. At some point after managed to get a bit of sleep only to be re-woken at 5.30 and that was it. The worst nights sleep I have had in well over 10 years. This at a time I was already tired after a busy day including 3 hours driving. |Arranged to have the included breakfast at 9am. Went down to find no one serving or taking orders, all help yourself. Only coffee option was a glass container containing mixture of granules see photo, no thanks. Not enough milk to have any cereal. At 9.40, only 20 minutes before check-out time someone came to take my order. 3 times I told her what to remove from full English, including it being written down still got it wrong getting no mushrooms. Sausage herby and awful, bacon very fatty. So just...
