I have been to the Boathouse several times, but that was some years ago. I love the pub, the location is beautiful. I booked lunch at 1.15pm for my friend and I on 12th Feb, which coincided with an ultra high tide in Parkgate, the town was inundated with visitors and so was the pub. The overwhelming impression was that the place is severely understaffed. It was fully booked, they were turning people away. I could only see 4 staff dealing with the bar, the decking, and all the inside tables. As a result, we left at 3pm having only had one course which didn't arrive until gone 2pm. We had asked for the sweet menu, and wanted coffee, but the poor waitresses showed no sign of returning, and our afternoon was dwindling away so we gave up and left. The staff, when they did arrive, were very nice, eager to please, and professional. I had the grilled seabass with beautifully cooked roasted carrots, and my friend had the Game stew. The food was delicious....all the more frustrating. They lost at least another £20 on the bill, and probably more - had we been served more quickly, we could have been out in an hour and a half and they could have rebooked the table. One comment about the table - we were placed in a little corridor above the large dining area, which was fine apart from one problem - the fire door out onto the decking was behind us and was in constant use. So our meal was punctuated by the door banging loudly as staff and guests came in and out. There seems to be a problem with that door, as some people struggled to open it so resorted to rattling it (loudly), and a staff member had to go several times to open it from the inside, adding to their workload. It wasn't a relaxing atmosphere. So sorry, as it's a lovely pub, and the one course we had...
Read moreCame with my partner and 2 daughters today (for Father’s Day) and left unhappy! (Thanks) I made staff aware upon leaving that I was going to leave a review as-well. We were lucky enough to get a table upon entrance as the place was packed, I ordered minted lamb shank, pork loin and roast beef dinner..... Although the pork loin had more fat then meat! My daughter had no complaints. Now, I ordered the roast beef dinner, that seemed to have a lovely pool of the (condiment) horse radish, next to my beef! This wasn’t beef glazed in horse radish or some sort of cream, it was a pool of horse radish next to my meat.... I have since looked at the menu and it is advertised as horseradish cream so I apologise for not requesting not to have any when I first placed my order. Anyway I politely took it back and was told that they would replace my meal.... (great) Until I got to my last piece of beef when that disgusting taste of something you don’t like rolls onto the taste buds! Yes you have read correct, they didn’t replace my meal they scooped the horse radish off and changed the plate! Thank god I didn’t have an allergy or this place would have a lawsuit on its hands.... By this point I’m sweating and trying to work out why I’ve had the p..s taken out of me in this establishment on father’s day! I went to the bar and told the staff. The girl was helpful and put me onto (the manager) Wasn’t the same guy I had spoken to the first time but he went into the kitchen, came back to apologise and refund me £15 The experience of eating in a nice restaurant with my two daughters on father’s day went out...
Read moreI recently visited The Boathouse Parkgate with some friends for Sunday lunch. We were all looking forward to trying the Sunday roast sharing platter, which sounded like a great way to sample a variety of meats and sides.
The platter arrived and it was even more impressive than we had imagined. It was piled high with roast beef, crispy belly pork, roast chicken, turkey, stuffing, pigs in blankets, mash, roast potatoes, seasonal vegetables, and a bottomless jug of real gravy.
The meat was all cooked to perfection and the vegetables were cooked just right. The gravy was rich and flavorful, and the whole platter was absolutely delicious.
We all enjoyed our meal and we would definitely recommend it to others. The Boathouse Parkgate is a great place to go for a Sunday roast, and the sharing platter is a great way to try a bit of everything.
Here are some additional details about my experience:
The atmosphere at The Boathouse Parkgate is relaxed and friendly. The pub is located right on the Dee Estuary, so you can enjoy stunning views of the water while you eat. The service was excellent. Our waiter was attentive and helpful, and he made sure that we had everything we needed. The price of the Sunday roast sharing platter was reasonable, especially considering the size of the platter and the quality of the food. Overall, I had a great experience at The Boathouse Parkgate and I would definitely recommend it to others. If you're looking for a delicious and satisfying Sunday roast, this is the...
