Oh dear. I've lived on the Wirral for over 30 years and this was one of the best Chinese restaurants I have ever eaten in. However, I've not been for many year's until last night......... I was surprised at the menu change - no starters - just sharing platters at £18 per head - I have to say the platter was lovely but nothing outstanding - as good as you would get in any restaurant. We skipped my favourite crispy duck as we thought the £32 cost was a little too steep. We then ordered the mains. I went for king prawns with vegetables served with noodles. The menu didn't say you couldn't eat the noodles - they were used to serve the food in and were hard as rock. The dish was bland with very little taste. My friend ordered chicken which was reconstituted and slimey - again without much flavour. His girlfriend ordered the vegetable vermicelli which was OK but without much flavour either being just veg & noodles. Without the chilli sauce and soy sauce it would have been the blandest meal ever. The highlight came with the bill - which came to a staggering £155 for the three of us. I accept there was alcohol on the bill - 6 bottles of beer - 1 prosecco - 1 vodka & tonic + 3 Irish coffees, but it was an expensive Saturday night out!!! Looking at other reviews maybe they were having a bad night, but my wallet has asked me not to go back to check. I am also not in the habit of leaving poor reviews - rather leaving good ones as its easier to moan than praise. But I feel Mr Chows crown has certainly slipped and I shall be ordering my Chinese food from the many takeaways and chippies in the area in the future, that in my opinion provide better quality food if...
Read moreI have been coming to mr Chows for many years, and decided this bankholiday sunday evening on a takeaway for 3 almost costing me Gbp 60,,-..and normally in general we never had complaints sitting down enjoying a good quality meal, and expecting the same quality as from a takeout from mr Chows 2 weeks earlier, I was completely surprised by the taste of the much "watered down" Hot & Sour soup, and the 2 Special Currys, which tasted like someone mixed a salty curry powder with hot water and still could taste the floury salty mixture an hour later having left and thrown away most and taken out the 2 prawns and meat mixed with was supposed to be a treat for the family, not been able to afford this every week..... My wife had an Irish coffee while waiting, and even that had a bad sour after taste of which she complained, but maybe the coffee was old and standing in the pot for a long time or the cream was off as I myself did not collect the meal but only tasted it at home which left me very disappointed to say the least as we did not have this experience often, and although it was busy, its no excuse for a watered down hot & sour soup which is normally rich & deep red in colour, compaired now with light brown yellowish substance, and a salty, floury, not mixed with water good enough curry for Gbp 12,- Will get my curry from a local Chippy in the future for a fraction...
