A memorable overnight stay.
We got to the ship an hour early and they were able to check us in that little earlier which we appreciated. We headed upto our room navigating through narrow but charming hallways. We booked a double room which was nice and clean, presentable and spacious for an overnight visit. The decor was old but in keeping with the style of hotel, which was totally fine. A broken bathroom lock and bed that was quite creeky, but is forgiving as we have only come out of a covid pandemic.
We headed out to the bar area to grab a drink and look at the amazing view. There was a good one way system and mask wearing policy in place which felt well handled. At the bar was a large selection of draft beers and bottles.
We had a few drinks outside and observed the wonderful wildlife before our dinner reservation in the restaurant for the evening for a birthday celebration. There was a good selection of meals of the food menu, and drinks menu too. We ordered two courses, the starters took no time at all. The camembert sharing board was amazing quality and the artisan breads were very nice. Apparently the fish starters were wonderful. The mains came out in a good time considering there was a 20 min wait stated on the menu for one of the dishes we ordered. All the mains were delicious, we thoroughly enjoyed. Polished with bottle of red rioja which was so good!
Were had the opportunity to move outside after food to have coffee and some more drinks into the evening as we watched the sun set over the wonderful river dee.
The breakfast was adequate, quite slow service in the morning as it took 40 mins to be served a full English. But it definitely set us up for the day and our...
Read moreWe visited for a friends wedding in the Wirral. The hotel was easy to find, with sufficient parking and stunning views!
We arrived at check in time so our room was available. The staff were incredibly friendly, reception and waiting staff were fun, had a sense of humour however were professional at the same time. Even the cleaning staff offered to help me with my luggage down the stairs! Everyone polite.
A bit of an inconvenience was no travelcots or baby beds. So I had to nip out the day before and buy one to bring up! The bedroom was nicely tidy and decor was pleasant and modern. Two single beds pushed together but luckily I couldn’t feel the dip in the middle!! I slept very soundly. Lovely quiet rooms. Too warm though. We were provided with a fan but it just fanned hot air around. Could have done with bathroom and bedroom window opening wider to let the breeze in. Probably restricted due to health and safety!! Lovely room size (we did request a larger one due to the travel cot). Bathroom was mediocre.....only a shower, I do like a bath on holiday and so does my daughter. In all honesty, bathroom needs redecorating as mould was obvious in shower and rust on the silver holders but it is a 3 star so this maybe why.
Very flexible with the check out times, which was great for us with a little one.
Food was yummy. Brilliant large menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner! So much choice. The large breakfast selection made up for the small array of fruit and yogurt on offer.
Overall I would return. The room was a reasonable price for the bedroom and bathroom, we paid £70 per night. If improvements were made to the bathrooms and a few other small things, I feel they could get a...
Read moreWe stayed here to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary and had high hopes for a special experience. Sadly, the stay didn’t quite match our expectations.
The photos online made the rooms appear spacious and light with beautiful views across Wales, but our room was absolutely tiny, uncomfortably hot with no air conditioning, and looked out onto a brick wall. The bed was also quite small, which made things less comfortable than we’d hoped.
In advance of our stay, I had requested an ice bucket and champagne glasses to be in the room on arrival. This had been confirmed by the hotel, but wasn’t provided. What made this more frustrating was that a relative had arranged for a gift voucher to be left in the room, which had been delivered, so it was clear the room had been accessed. It just felt like a missed opportunity to get a simple detail right.
We also had dinner in the restaurant. The food was quite expensive but unfortunately didn’t live up to expectations. My husband asked for a well-done steak (£26) which arrived undercooked (actually bloody) and was also quite fatty. I had the linguine (£16.50), which was fine but quite bland and didn’t feel worth the price.
It’s a real shame, as we were looking forward to a memorable stay for a special occasion. Overall it felt underwhelming and not the level of experience we were expecting for the price. We were...
