The reason I give 1-star is based on my email conversation with them, not the experience in the pub. The pub is amazing. I give 1-star to grab attention to an important matter than it was ignored in my conversation.

Today I went for a run, and a bus almost hit me with a mirror. My partner knows a person that was killed by a bus mirror.

What is the problem at Catherine Wheel. The hanging baskets. I told them years ago that I was almost hit by a bus mirror because of the hanging baskets, that only one person at a time can squeeze between the traffic light and the hanging baskets.

This 1-star is for whoever was involved in a bus mirror accident, and for all these places that think they are doing something amazing by hanging the baskets to the head level and forcing pedestrians to put their life in danger for some bloody flowers.

I am 6 feet 4 and I am scared that one day a bus mirror will knock my head and leave me with a...

You may find comfort food and pie in a lot of places but very rarely do you find food that comforts not only your stomach but also your soul. I could feel happiness sinking in with every bite of the delicious pie and though the food is over I'm left wanting more and more and more. Be back soon for some more mouth watering and heart warming pie. The place is cozy, a bit cramped up but the food makes up for the logistics. The staff is polite and welcoming. The food menu provides a good amount of options and the prices are nothing outrageous. The location is very convenient and you can walk right in after an exhausting day. There's a smoking zone here as well with a wide selection of beers and ales. All in all a must...

Recent meal at the Catherine Wheel and once again it did not disappoint! The pie selection is fantastic, the beer selection is huge and varied and the service is excellent. Knowledgeable and friendly staff really make for a welcoming atmosphere. High recommend the Mothership option when ordering a pie, for delicious mash, peas, gravy and vegetable crisps. Great selection of beers, on tap and in the fridge, including GF options and AF options. Great spot in the centre of town - would recommend parking in any of the local public car parks and short walk to this fantastic hidden...

Doesn't look so appealing from the outside, just like a regular pub so I'd not gone in previously but was told about their fantastic pie menu and decided to give it a try, glad I did. They have a selection of steak, chicken and vegan pies which should cater for everyone. Service is friendly and whilst it doesn't have a restaurant feel, the food is very good nonetheless. Very reasonably priced and generous portion sizes have tempted me to come here regularly. Who ate all the pies? That'll be me ☺️

The Sunday Pie Roast is great value; you choose a pie (or you can have lamb shank) which come with a Yorkshire. Then you can fill your plate with as much veg as you like...as many times as you can muster. All for £10.95. Beer, cider and gin selection is the best I have found locally, especially from the perspective of having all 3 under the same roof. A great selection of both local, British and world options. A really relaxed town centre pub, worthy of a visit
