We went for lunch, we were very keen to have some Sashimi so asked what was going to be served today in the ‘deluxe platter’ (chefs selection), we were told it would be the chefs selection (🤦🏻‍♀️) so I asked what does the chef say?! We were then told it was all of the fish, so we assumed that would mean all of the fishes noted in the sashimi section of the menu. All of the fish isn’t a selection. Also the sashimi special of the day was a marinated tuna so we kind of expected to have that served as the tuna part of the platter, alas this was not the case. Also there were two of us for lunch as we were sharing these platters so I would have expected there to have been equal amounts of sashimi cut, however two of them were 3 slices not 4. These sorts of things are little complaints but to be honest make a real difference to your dining experience. We also had the hot platter. Both of the platters were delicious, the sashimi could have been less cold (for better flavour) but that’s just being picky. The hot platter was cooked well but part of it looked like It was frozen pre-made produce. Our main issue was the fact that the sashimi platter really wasn’t chefs selection, well if it was it was a lazy selection and nothing special. We also got given the wrong bill at the end, nearly double what our bill should have been. I’d just say that even though the service was polite it was not what I would call good service. We don’t eat out often so when we do we want to know it’s really special, service is often our issue with so...

Google won't let me add a new review, so am adding to 2022's...

We really should visit more often. Came for anniversary dinner, and the staff were so sweet. Service is excellent. Food is always amazing, we tell them what we like and they 'chef surprise' us. The whole food experience is great (don't be scared if you haven't tried here before, they'll help you), but it was also rather fitting to have the late 80's music playing on this particular occasion. I felt like you'd grabbed my retro playlist! Sat in the window watching the passers by, but there are also more private tables behind. And outside tables in the summer. Its not the cheapest place ever, you can't use tesco vouchers for example, but we don't think they've put their prices up for a long time, and their ngredients aren't cheap. But value for money, yes, again, excellent. Thank you all, for making our anniversary special. Hope to see you soon.

2022...We're always delighted at Sushi Maki with the choice and quality of the food, friendly service and the restaurant itself is sweet, even better now in the larger premises. I often ask the restaurant to help me choose, and they always seem happy to help, sometimes even creating something just for me, without charging extra. That said, the menus are clear, with plenty of choices with pictures so you don't have to think too hard to understand them. Still our favourite place for a treat.. Thank you...

Allergic to nuts. No mention of nuts on the menu. Nuts added to meals that no other sushi restaurant’s do (Wakame Salad)

Very unsympathetic response form the guy on the phone when we called in to enquire about possible nuts - after having eaten them unknowingly. Employee said they don’t know what nuts are included. “It just says nuts, on the packet”

————————————— In response to your response;

A fair point and a responsibility that I would have taken upon myself, had the attitude of the person on the phone been less dismissive and unconcerned. From the your reply, should i assume you are the person I spoke to on the phone?

I only called up because an allergic reaction had started occurring and you always have to track a reaction to its source, if possible.

“I’ll sort this out and call you back” I said. “Do what you like” was the reply.

Had you showed any concern, be it during the initial call, or now, we wouldn’t be talking on this...

As someone who’s lived in Japan, this was fairly mediocre. Not horrible, but very inauthentic. Their chicken “karaage” was equivalent to any chicken nugget you’d get from a fast food restaurant. Their spicy poke bowl was drenched with fake wasabi. The tempura wasn’t made fresh. You can tell it was frozen prior to. The fake sakura trees need to go. Most of the drink options had artificial sweeteners…very unhealthy chemicals.
