Mixed feelings about this place - was recommended the restaurant by a friend for its' steaks and overall, the rump looked very good but the rib eye that I had was not as good as I expected. Too chewy and not very tasty.
However the most disappointing experience of the meal came from what they served as the Sunday Roasts for our two coeliac adults in the group. Am kicking myself that I didn't take a photo of what was served to them as honestly, imagine the tiniest portion of a chicken thigh and 5 roast potatoes and a small portion of vegetables to share amongst two adults. We honestly thought they had mixed the order and served them additional kids portions but the waiter embarrassingly confirmed that the child and adult portions were basically the same size. But honestly, being served such a tiny single portion of thigh chicken, together with none of the promised alternatives for our coeliacs made me question what the chefs took pride in when they served up their plates???? It was honestly the worst Sunday Roast that my husband has ever been served and although the service was lovely, and they brought out extra roast potatoes for them upon request, we won't be returning for another meal.
To top it off, we later received an email requesting my feedback which I was very happy to provide and discuss. So I replied and provided my mobile and to this day, I have received no returned call. I even followed up the email again, reminding them to contact me for my feedback and to advise that I would be posting my review later in the week, but again, no answer has been received. Quite a disappointing response from Management I feel. I will update this review if I ever...
Read moreThe Chequers was a fantastic 5* restaurant with one of the best meals I had ever tasted. One of the best go to places in Marlow, however COVID changed a few of it’s services. Firstly the removal of the butchers meat selection fridge, understandable due to COVID but it is always something special about seeing the chef cut meat to your size preferences. Post lockdowns we did continue going and the food continued it’s excellent quality. However the last 3 times I have been in the last 3 months the food quality seems to have slipped. On both occasions or ordering steaks, Sirloin and New York Strip, they have been well done when requesting medium rare. The fish and chips was alright but after a while the batter started to taste fairly sickly. Finally they have added a new seasoning for some of the chips, I believe this is truffle seasoning, which again starts okay, after a while can leave an unpleasant aftertaste, I presume as truffle seasoning is the new autumn “in thing” it may be temporary but hoping the winter seasonal changes can be a fresh start for the Chequers as it feels it is starting to...
Read moreStaff are rude. Some girl on the restaurant host stand at the back approached us not with a kind and friendly “hello” but rather; “you can’t come in here unless you’re eating”. Sorry but there is absolutely no need for that attitude.
The bar staff don’t smile, don’t chat or make eye contact.
We went to a gig here and nobody was stopping a group of drunk people walking and falling all over their music equipment. How disrespectful and rude.
Then I saw the manager rudely push a girl outside of the pub after a complete stranger interrupted her evening and instigated something. The manager had clearly not assessed the situation before approaching this girl and took upon himself to man handled her. It was not appropriate and I felt the need to ask her if she was okay after I witnessed it. She seemed rather shocked about it.
These are just some of the situations here which have clearly not been managed properly in this pub! It’s not good enough. It makes me really ashamed to see. I’m a marlow resident. This is not a...
