If I could hand out awards , they’d of won the worst Sunday dinner award in Hexham.
Called in to the Coach and horses due to everywhere else in Hexham being busy and here was quiet. Should have been a sign to turn back round !
Got served fairly quickly and order chicken goujons to start with and 2 Sunday diners - one turkey and one beef.
The starter arrives fairly quickly and to be fair it was tasty. Crispy chicken sided with a nice dipping sauce.
Once the starter was taken away our dinner arrived straight away , which was far too quick for a proper dinner to be cooked.
Straight away the dinner was slightly warm and the gravey looked like dish water. Requested for extra gravy hoping it would be a little better but sadly that wasn’t the case.
However I thought I’d give it a try as looks can be deceiving but it tasted as bad as it looked unfortunately. All veg was just either mush or dry. It tasted like it had been pre cooked , then warmed up and left to the side to serve straight away. Then the serving of beef was huge , 3 great big slices. No wonder you got a lot it must of been the cheapest cut of meat possible! Trying to chew it was like eating a bulls lug. Really disappointing and when mentioned to staff that the beef was poor and they could tell by the plate not much was eaten all that was said is that the chef would be informed.
Really disappointing experience at The Coach and Horses, if you are looking for a good meal in Hexham please go to The County over the road where you will get...
Read moreWe stayed over Christmas (24th/25th). The hotel wasn't open on Christmas day but their sister hotel/pub (The County) across the road provided all the necessary services (eg. breakfast, additional room refreshments etc). The stay got off to a good start when the lady I spoke to when booking was very friendly and helpful. I later worked out this was Fiona, the owner of the business, who clearly knows how to provide great customer service. We then received an email shortly before the visit with helpful additional information on parking. This was followed by a call from FIona to check we had arrangements for food on Christmas day, knowing the hotel wasn't open. During the call Fiona provided a helpful list of other restaurants that they recommended ranging from italian and indian to mexican, tapas and french bistro. |On arrival we were welcomed by the team who also provided additional parking information (the local knowledge was very helpful and saved us a lot of car moving during our stay) and were happy to lend us things for our room eg. plates! |On Christmas day we were made welcome at the sister hotel (The County) where we were able to have a lunch time drink and complimentary mince pies. A perfect treat before we went out to dinner at a local Indian Restaurant. Both restaurants we went to were recommended by Fiona and were excellent - see individual reviews. |We will definitely be back in the future. Thank you...
Read moreWe visited The Coach and Horses on a midweek afternoon. Positives - The food was good, decent portion sizes and well presented. I had the fish and chips and my partner had the lemon chicken. No complaints at all there. Negatives - My partner ordered a pot of tea which was brought with a cup which was dirty. It had a film of dirt which was visible and felt dried on to the touch (as the photos show). I asked the waiter to replace it as it was dirty which he did, but no apology was given just "Ok, I'll get you another". He also didn't seem to understand when my partner asked if the fish and chips were cooked in beef dripping as she doesn't eat red meat. "They're cooked in batter like fish always are" was the reply. He didn't seem to understand despite us trying to simplify the question further. Surely the waiting staff should be prepared to answer questions on dietary...
