Met up with 4 friends for my 60th birthday. Two of us choose roast beef Sunday lunch which was carved very thick. The gravy wasn't brought with the meal. When we asked for it it took ages for it to be brought to us. The other choosen food from the menu. That was ok. There was also a large amount of people in for a 1st birthday party. There was only one member of staff to serve food and drinks which was to much for one person to do. She also had to change a barrel between doing all this. There was no sign of any management while we were there.

Great pub! Dog friendly, lovely landlord and landlady. Great staff. Great beer! Large beer gardens to front and side. Large car park - if you do drive don’t forget to put your reg in using the ipad on the bar - plenty of warning sides inside and out. Live music on a night weekends, quiz night on a Wednesday. Lovely place.

The Cottage Inn is a nice village pub. The front bar has a modern feel to it. There is a good selection of draught drinks, including three cask conditioned hand pulled real ales. The ones I sample were in excellent condition. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. There is outside seating, and the pub is dog friendly.

DIABOLICAL FOOD AND STAFF!! What used to be a lovely pub with lovely food and staff is no more! Absolutely shocking place if you not been in afew months I recommend going elsewhere!

Upon walking in we was met with a very frosty faced women not the usually friendly welcome we had been used too!

I ordered my usual (10oz serloin steak) I ordered it medium well.

When the plate come out I was beyond disappointed the meal was half the size it used too be, the steak half the usual size was mostly fat and gristle over cooked and chewy. Chips are no longer home cooked all though they wasnt bad the portion size was a fraction of what it used too be, same the other sides.

I held off eating waiting for some one to ask if all was ok as some one usally would other times ive been, to ask to swap the meal for something else.

No one came and the women was in and out the back then she had what appeared to be a meeting with some one (i heard her say she was from hieniken) So I was unable to speak with her and was no other staff behind the bar.

I had to be somewhere so had no time to go elsewhere to eat and been a dibetic i had to eat something before my appointment, not only that the others I was with didn't want theirs to go cold so they started to eat their meals, so I had to option but to eat the meal.

That been said as I started to eat my meal I started to wonder if maybe since the menu had change so dramatically in quality and size, that the price would likely have changed to reflect this.

Eventually the women came over (after we had been finished) to clear the table and reluctantly asked if was OK again not friendly and quite passive aggressive, I expressed that it was not the standard I expected in a kind manner, as I had been many times prior and always enjoyed it.

In expressing my disappointment to the women I asked if it was the same price as the old standard of food which to my shock she said it was again rather rudely, and was not only rude but was smirking aswell while telling me i ate the food (barring half the steak that was covered in gristle) which i explained why i had to eat the food, again she was clever and smirking.

At this point I made it clear I would not be paying £19 for a steak that was the standard of frozen meal or a chain meal such as flying legends at best.

The women was not open to offer any resolution and whats worse, not even a apology was given. Now as a business women myself I would of been so apologetic and done what I good to turn a negative experience into a positive one, after all its the custom of the public that keeps you in business with out them there is no business!! at the very very least a sincere apology should of been given and the offer to pass the feedback on to the relevant persons to try improve service and quality in the future.

After refusing to pay at first, i agree the food was eaten depsite been very mediocre not worth the £19 i tried to meet this women half way by saying i would pay £10 for the meal rough price as a chain establishment steak as that's the quality I received in fact for a serlion i have had better rumps with less fat and gristle. Again was met with passive aggressive behaviour no compromise and no apology, the women just walked off!

I would absolutely not of paid full price for that meal or even paid at all, I since found out lucky for her my god mother paid my bill with her the bill, again the women offered no apology when my god mother chose to pay the bill.

Since found out this place is under new ownership for the last few weeks and it shows and I would be very surprised if they last another few weeks.

This women should not work with the public a customer service focused role is not for her at all.

I would also suggest reverting back to the old suppliers/chefs and service of food or changing the price to reflect the sub standard food service.

Over all was deplorable service food and atmosphere

Real shame!! Used to be such...

Visited for the first time today, looked like a lovely place, had heard only positive things about it. This was not our experience! The service was very slow and when one of our party (a lady in her 60s) enquired about how long it would be the guy was very rude and abrupt with her. Food eventually came (an hour after ordering) and what a disaster! We had ordered a vegetarian option roast dinner only to be told we hadn't ordered that and they didn't have one (we did request said meal at the bar when placing our order) not only that 2 of our party were also sent the wrong meals. I had ordered a burger which I had to send back because it really wasn't very nice and had no real flavour, it was taken away and nothing more said nor was I offered something in its place. When it came to paying the older lady tried to address with the owner the issues we had encountered, at which point he became very verbally aggressive, this did not sit well with me. We were again accused of lying about ordering the vegetarian option (a member of our party went hungry) and then the guy became very aggressive and argumentative which actually really riled me. We were also made to pay for the burger that was sent back, so effectively paid for nothing....wasnt even given The option to even take home what i had sent back to give to the dog (which in my opinion is all it was good for)! The customer service levels here are massively lacking, I've worked in plenty of bars and restaurants in my time and this is so not how to handle a disgruntled customer. I only ever try to leave positive reviews online because businesses do actually rely on positive feedback and not just people having a moan. But, this guy was so rude and verbally aggressive I felt the need to forwarn others. So basically if u go here and don't like the food don't bother complaining cause you'll only end up being verbally abused! People like this should not be working with the general public, absolutely...

My husband and I went in on Friday night around 6:30pm. The place was busy with groups of people and couples. We got served at the bar straight away and found a table that had just been vacated. We were on our way to the bar to order when we halted in our tracks and someone came to the table instead. We just got our second drinks when our two sirloin steaks arrived. It was 20 mins max from when we ordered which, considering it was busy, was impressive. The food looked good and tasted better. The steak was perfectly done and we both polished it off. We had no issue with the staff who were all really nice and efficient with tables being cleared instantly. although one young girl behind the bar seemed in a strop when a group of lads came in, it didn't affect us other than entertainment value however unprofessional. The pub had a good atmosphere and was warm considering out was a cold night. There is only one reason I didn't give a 5 star rating and that's dogs are allowed on the carpeted area. Being a dog owner I know how much a carpet takes on the dogs odour and fur is a nightmare to get off. It's nice to go for a walk and pop in for a pint but there needs to be restrictions. I would rather not have had a yapping dog staring at me while I ate. Good value for money overall and will...
