Difficult one to review this. Wanted to like it as the pub itself is nice. The kids play area is to be fair, pretty darn cool, but sadly the food is mediocre at best.
We didn't have a great experience, with the ham and chips being rather ... Meh at best with 2 slices of ham to boot. Then a lasagne that sadly couldn't be eaten there was soo much oil/fat on it. We make lasagne most weeks and being a family who runs with strict budgets, we can make a lasagne using cheap meats and cheap cheeses with far far less oil (Aldi and Lidl own brand for example).
A refund was given, but wasn't sure who the chap who did it was, but tried to excuse it by the fact the cheese was grilled. Brilliant it's grilled, that's a given really, but alas, we spooned out 5 table spoons and it was still full, poured it onto the plate and used all the napkins we had to try and mop some up but still too much and after 3 bites, sadly my partner couldn't stomach any more.
The 2 kids meals were fairly ok. Again for the money, pretty basic.
All in all, nice building, staff seemed reasonably pleasent, play area fantastic, food just isn't what it could and should be.
Don't normally go into detail and don't like putting negatives in, but feel it's something that...
Read moreWe tried to get into a few restaurants this evening but most places seemed fully booked and we came across The Hairy Dog. We could walk straight in and choose a table. Menu looked good but the food was ultimately disappointing. We paid £9.90 for a burger which would have been better at a cheap fast food restaurant - it was very plain and didn't taste great at all. The fajitas were nice with a really good amount of meat but could have done with more pepper and the chips were very good.
The service was nice and quick despite the pub being reasonably busy but the staff were not overly friendly.
The pub interior itself was as expected at a standard pub and the restaurant section behind the bar was very nice. In fact this was very busy and you could see why as it had a lovely feel to it. We sat in the pub itself and I would say it could certainly do with redecorating in some areas.
The pub has a good 4.2 star review at this point and looking back on the reviews now I can see that something has certainly changed in the last month or so. Reviews pre-dating this seem much better with food that looks of a much better quality than what we recieved this evening. Ultimately a disappointing experience but with the potential...
Read moreCame in on Tuesday the 15th of January. Sat down in the family seating area, looked at the menu and quickly decided on 2 tuna mayo baguettes and a side order of onion rings and cheesy garlic bread. I went to order, and straight away got the impression that the older gentleman taking the order would rather be anywhere else than there doing his job. He was rather cold, abrupt and somewhat rude. He also took down one of the side orders wrong, and he never even came over to apologise. Now I've worked in hospitality when I was a teenager, and to me I think that is unacceptable behaviour. But not wanting to make a scene, me and my friend waited for our food. The tall, blonde young man serving us could not have been nicer! He had a lovely smile and was very warm and polite. He sorted the mix up with the side orders out straight away, making sure I got the money back for the difference of thr items straight away. The food was of a good standard, and very generous portions. All in all a bit of a disappointing start to our time here, but saved by the lovely young man who brought us our food. Maybe the other server needs a refresher course in good...
