I recently visited a local pub, about which I had previously heard a mix of opinions. My own experience offered some insights worth sharing.
The pub features two separate bars, an interesting aspect that influenced my visit. My family and I were seated in what I'll refer to as the 'secondary bar', which had a sign clearly instructing patrons to order from the 'main bar'. This setup was initially understandable. However, the practicality of it became questionable when, despite being visibly seated in the secondary bar, we were required to collect our drinks and snacks from the main bar. The landlady, busy attending the bar, did not offer to bring our order to the bar closer to us, despite being aware of our location. This oversight necessitated multiple walks between the rooms, which detracted from the convenience and comfort of our visit.
In terms of interaction, the landlady was noticeably more engaged with her dog than with us, the customers. While a bit of pet interaction adds a homely feel, a balance with customer engagement is crucial.
The service was prompt, yet it lacked the warmth and attentiveness that characterises a welcoming pub atmosphere. A little more personal touch in service could go a long way.
Overall, while the pub has its charm, the experience highlighted areas for improvement, especially in terms of customer service and making better use of the dual-bar setup to enhance customer...
Read moreThis was the worst experience during our trip to the UK. The service was awful, we waited over 45 minutes for a simple hamburger, after waiting for at least 15 minutes to have our order taken. The hamburger was black and inedible. (We had asked for medium rare and were told no problem) I could have and would have eaten a well cooked hamburger, although I prefer medium rare, but this hamburger was black and riddled with onion mixed into the meat but this was not stated in the menu description. I ate the bread and fries as there seemed to be no other place around and it was getting late. Could literally not eat the "meat", which was well done but not burnt, mind you but just black in color, dried out and tasted terrible. They charged more then the menu stated and were unapologetic about the bad meat.
Everything else we experienced on our trip and every other place we visited in the UK was either great or good. The people kind and the service good. I do not complain lightly nor do I usually negatively review a place. This one deserves...
Read moreDecided to pop in for a quick drink on our way home with our dog. We were greeted by a lovely friendly lady behind the bar. We thought we'd take a look at the food menu and although there aren't loads of choices we were tempted by the ham, egg & chips so decided to eat here too. The food arrived on a lovely hot plate, was very well presented & tasted delicious. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meal ( our dog loved the ham too ). The pub was very clean throughout and very comfortable. Some new carpet would help finish things off. The garden area could possibly do with a little updating and promoting as its quite hidden away. We had a lovely time and will definitely be back. Would thoroughly recommend a visit if you are looking for somewhere to have a nice drink or bite to...
