From the outset, I'm a fussy eater, so no veg was required. They said they'd meet this and I asked for extra roast potatoes please, using the words 'lots' and reiterating several times. I was a little disappointed when it arrived. I 'should' have asked for Yorkshire puddings, it slipped my mind not having beef. The food was good, but pub was full so had to eat in the very busy beer garden. The wind was strong, the wasps a real nuisance. I was checked on, I should have asked for more, but was busy batting wasps away and just wanted to leave at that point. Wasps not pubs fault. I enjoyed what I had.

It was table service which is good but it was a bit of a mess... Outdoor seating didn't feel like you were 2m away from the next table, the menu is on a blackboard behind a table inside the pub so you have to walk back inside the pub to look at the menu which is unnecessary movement. Food was OK nothing special and I wouldn't go here again.

Truly amazing!!! Very helpful staff and were very welcoming of us. Menu was very varied even though it was stripped back due to Covid. Well priced food and drinks plus they stocked Purbeck cider which is a winner for me. The Mrs had lasagne which was fresh and tasty and the boy had kids fresh battered fish and chips, all sublime.

Updated ....[2 years ago ~ Beautiful building right in the heart of Wareham, can't help feeling it lacks gravitas. They are solid people running it on a shoestring and keeping it going, which is the most important thing ! Too many places get crushed under the pubco fist of destruction. My heart goes out to the good folk of "The Bear" across the road. ] It's one of the last "Great Anglo-Saxon" towns of our goodly shires that easily holds itself against the modernistic types wanting to wash everything with plastic and lies. I like the place, many won't if I'm honest, But like the Duke and the other "Big Five" of Wareham, it is part of the town and should be visited. The Quay and even the chip shop, the hardy guy at the mobility shop (yes ...it has one !!) ...and a library. (Maybe I should be sending this to the tourist board ? ) . Public Houses and the like only exist by patronage....go on .... Enjoy England ! Edit. New management have vastly improved and invested in this place. It's back to being a great place....

A few years ago this was a poor pub that was not at all pleasant. A place to be avoided. Under the current management it is a vibrant and welcoming pub with friendly and helpful staff. Outside of the peak “tourist season” it is frequented by locals. At other times visitors to Wareham will find a warm welcome. There is a decent range of ales from a variety of breweries. These are well cared for. It is a great place to pop into for a pint. A few months ago I ate there for the first time. We booked a table and were seated comfortably. The menu is more than adequate. Not too extensive but offers a good choice over three courses and with “specials”. I have eaten there many times subsequently and have always found the service to be efficient and punctual and the food to be very good. The ‘Horse and Groom’ is my pub of...

Had a couple of really nice lunches here in the past and even though the pub inside is very dated and could do with a good clean we decided to return based on our previous experience of the food, sadly our recent visit was very disappointing. I wasn’t very hungry so just had a starter dish of prawns which were about £10+ The tiny dish of about seven rubbery, tasteless little prawns arrived. I ate about four but they obviously weren’t going to improve so left the rest. My son had the fish pie (quite pricey)which in the past has been fabulous but not so good that day. What’s really annoying is when I mentioned how disappointing the prawns were, the server responded with, she would let the kitchen know, and of course nobody got back to me. What’s the point in that? It’s just rude and uncaring, they’ve got your money and...
