Awful. We went on Saturday 1st Oct at 11am for brunch. There was three of us and we ordered a Big breakfast, a classic breakfast and a vegetarian breakfast. Things started out badly when we heard, from our table fairly near the kitchen door, a person in the kitchen shout "eff off with your vegetarian breakfast" when they had received our order. He then proceeded to ask the (very nice and polite) young bar person who had gone in to ask if my bacon could be well done what "was in a vegetarian breakfast anyway"... We laughed it off at this stage. We are not precious and although that wasn't what you'd expect to hear we understand a commercial kitchen environment can be a bit unfiltered at times. All would be fine as long as the food was good. It arrived. It wasn't. Everything was charred with the black marks you get from an unclean griddle. Sausages, Bacon, Tomatoes, Mushroom etc and they all had a greasy burnt flavour as a result. I love a nice chargrilled effect on my food but this was plain and simply produced by layers of old food remnants from an unclean griddle and you could taste the grease and the burned food in it. One of my hash browns was a completely different colour to the others (wed ordered extra) and as far as we could tell had been refried. The bacon I'd asked to be well done wasn't well done - not a big deal when stacked up with the other issues but still annoying. Probably the single worst thing about the meals was that the overdone fried eggs on my daughters vegetarian breakfast and both the overdone fried eggs on my big breakfast had shell in them. I really couldn't believe that. It was at this point I stopped eating my meal as I wasn't confident it wouldn't make me ill and my mind was conjuring up images of what the cleanliness of the kitchen might be like. I felt there was no point in complaining given the foul mouthed outburst when we'd simply ordered a vegetarian breakfast and I'm not so sure there is a customer focussed approach in this pub and that must come from management. You win some and lose some and on this occasion we used this as a learning point to never return to this pub and, based on our experience on Saturday I could not recommended this place to...
Read moreWould give zero stars if I could not even worth one. The worst Sunday lunch I have had, both in terms of quality and quantity. Went today for a birthday lunch but I was left speechless at what i was served as a turkey sunday dinner for the price of £10.49. As it was for a birthday i did not complain or take photos. The staff were lacklustre clearly did not want to be there, No one said hello when we arrived and no one asked how the meal was and no one said goodbye, the chap serving our table sighed all the time, did not engage with us and virtually threw the food at us. he also cleared the table whilst my father was still eating without even asking. As for the food, i doubt there are enough characters for everything that was wrong. My son had a chicken burger despites asking for this to be plain with no salad or mayonnaise and explaining that it was just to be the bun with chicken in and the girl tapping this all in on the screen, it came with everything on! We had to ask for a new bun base. On the roast dinner we got two tiny roast pototoes that had been kept warm and tasted a week old, they were that dry even the steak knife couldnt cut them. The slice of turkey was barely enough for a toddler, I seriously have never seen a portion so small it is hard to comprehend. the parsnips were that tiny you nearly missed them, they had no flesh and were just blackened shriveled bits of chewy stick, frozen carrots barely cooked, the plate was a normal size and despite a large yorshire and a gravy boat on the plate there was still plenty of empty space. Gobsmacked and appalled, awful experience and a complete waste of hard earned money. needless to say we did not stay for pudding and wont...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOrder a Cumberland sausage from children's menu. My 3 year old daughter nearly choked on a half inch cocktail stick end left in the sausage. I told the bar staff who initially offered a free drink which I declined. They then spoke with the kitchen staff and offered a very hollow apology and explained that it must have been left in the sausage, leaving us with the impression that we should not really bothered them with the issue. It was not their fault it was actually the foods fault. How silly of us! Immediately after that they brought out the wrong dessert!
I felt it necessary to update this review after the response from the manager below. Mistakes are made it is irrelevant whether it was a supplier issue or the kitchen missing the wooden spike in my child's food which I had to remove from her mouth after she tried swallowing it. The negative review was due to the fact that we were given a 'so what' response when we raised the issue. This is compounded by the fact that in the managers response they had not realised the seriousness of the complaint...because at the time the staff couldn't have given a monkeys! No one even asked if she was okay. If a customer told me that their daughters food had a dangerous item in it I would be falling over myself to make up for it and not attempt to lay blame with a supplier, and yes this will prevent me coming back to...
