The Merrycat Fish & Chips — Restaurant in England

I wanted to leave a positive review as I like to support local businesses but my visit wasn't a great one.

Let me start with the negatives:

I found a long dark hair in my chips, which is no coincidence when both ladies working behind the counter had long dark hair without a hair net. That alone means I won't be visiting again as I really don't want to pay for the displeasure of eating your hair.

I thought it was expensive compared to others in the Blackpool area.

Chips come in just two portion sizes, so nothing for children or the elderly with smaller appetites. My portion of chips was a good 30% sharp scrappy bits, rather than chips, which went in the bin.

Positives:

Good choice of fish sizes, catering for all appetites plus the fish I sampled was cooked perfectly.

Pleasant staff.

If it hadn't been for the hair in the chips I would have recommended the Merry Cat, despite the expense, but that hair means it's not a recommendation from me.

I decided to order online on just eat tonight as I fancied a proper chippy and unfortunately the just eat driver didn’t turn up to deliver my order. The manager/owner called me as soon as he realised there would be no driver and offered to bring my order himself which was very kind of him, when he arrived at my door and handed me my food, he also slid my money in my hand and said ‘I can’t charge you for cold food’ which I thought was a really lovely gesture and had I known then how delicious the food was, i would of refused a refund! On the food itself, it was actually the perfect temperature for me to wolf it down! Really really enjoyed every bit and didn’t leave a scrap! Proper chippy chips, tasty gravy and the meat and potato pie was perfect! So I will definitely be using the merry cat more often to repay your kind gesture. Thanks...

Sorry but won't be buying from here again. Ordered a medium fish and small fish, portion of chips and fruity curry sauce for our tea. The chips were anemic, floppy and a couple were definitely still a bit raw! They should have told me that they would be putting two fish fillets together for the fish orders so both ended up with more batter than fish. Partner ended up putting hers in the bin! Plus side: friendly staff & nice curry sauce but that's about it. Used to be the best traditional chippy in Blackpool, shame the previous owners had to retire as will now have to find a decent chippy...
