Our visit was initially just a 'tongue in cheek' dinner whilst on holiday in the area as it would make a good story / memory to go to a 'Yorkshire tapas bar'. We were the first in there that evening (mid week) and had a lovely table overlooking the park. The guy serving was excellent and talked us through quite a few menu items and we opted for 4 small dishes and 2 large. All were really good with the portion sizes more than adequate to fully satisfy 2 of us. Very tasty indeed and we thoroughly enjoyed everything. So glad that we went. The total bill, including a very very large gin and a zero alcohol beer was under £60 so including a good tip (the service was very good) £70 for a very good meal out and a couple of drinks seemed a bargain. A couple of bonuses, other than the view out of the 1st floor window, was the music - not too loud to be instrusive and good stuff from the 70s/80s :-) Oh, and the real bonus was that the chef was happy to give us (well for £2) a pot of his fantastic Henderson's glaze that he'd made to top the crispy slow roast belly pork, to take away with us. We'll definitely go again when we're...
Read moreHas the feel of a friendly local boozer; staff very friendly and welcoming; clearly a place with history and a devoted clientele. Worth saying that my family and I were here primarily looking for some scran. Yorkshire tapas sounds (and purports to be) generous and celebratory of local produce; this wasn’t what we got. At £7-9 plus a dish, we chose 5 or so and spent around £35. What arrived, among some drab olives and slices of jalapeños, were 3 pigs in blankets, four tiny albondigas that were mealy and dry (likely recently frozen), a handful of chips, and a burnt onion Bhaji. The bhaji was so black and acrid to eat that we returned it, and the waitress politely then informed us that it was how it was supposed to be. What then arrived was a pile of bhaji bits - not nearly as big as the first portion - that looked as if someone had dismantled angrily on to the plate. It was still caught and unpleasant to eat. We were all still very hungry after we’d eaten and couldn’t help but rue not just going to grab some pizza somewhere. Go for the vibes, the friendly staff and atmosphere. My advice is don’t bother...
Read moreThe concept is great, the food is delicious but the service let's the restaurant down. This is very much a bar with the a restaurant as a side thought.
The service is extremely slow with us waiting 30mins just to be asked what drinks we'd like. This also means that some things sit in the kitchen pass a while and can feel a little past their best. I order a coffee and ice cream after food and the ice cream texture meant you could tell it had part defrosted and refrozen as it has ice all through it. The ice cream turned up half melted and the coffee had sat so long the milk froth had gone all weird looking.
It's a great idea and the food is good, the service let's the place down. The bar itself is awesome and the live music, in my experience, has...
