This place has serious gone down hill in the last 2 visits, never ever much veg on the carvery at lunch apart from 3 choices of veg that's been sitting there for hours. Ordering the dirty clucker burger meal was a joke as the chicken was like chewy rubber and was vile. This has been the case the last 2 visits here, the service has gotten worse.... Slower service or non existent. Took ages to get food and when the chef called service over the other staff jus walk past ignoring him and did so for ages we ended up going over our selves to get our food although I have mobility issues and it killed me! Like I said what a joke this place has became! UPDATE: emailed with no response!!! UPDATE 18/6/24: Has taken The old Quay 5 months to reconise their bad service after having emails ignored previously, Too little too late to say the least! If you want good food and good service and good customer service then this is NOT the place for you to come and dine (based on experience and waiting 5 months for a response after being ignored)! Thanks for the response but like i said too little too late!

Turned up on Sunday hoping to buy some soft drinks. We were told immediately on entering by a member of staff that ‘with no reservation we would have to sit outside’. Keep in mind that it was a cold and windy day. So fair enough, I thought, having customers standing at the bar wasn’t very welcome, so I said to the same member of staff that we would leave but what about the car parking (which is controlled by a company that 'fines'). I expected to be told ‘don’t worry, you have only been here for 5 minutes’ but no, I was told that I would have to phone the number on the sign outside and pay. So we went and bought drinks and stood by the bar, and were then able to have our registration number cancelled from the billing system. Whilst at the bar we found the staff to be welcoming and helpful. Overall impression however is that we were not made to feel very welcome, and if your parking company charges people that are turned away or are there for only a few minutes it will lose you customers. I will likely delete this review soon. I appreciate that there may have been a misunderstanding.

really nice destination carvey at parkgate, quite a large car park (just remember to validate your parking by entering your reg into the machine at the bar). There's a broad range of food and drinks, the carvey was a good price, the only negative was our roasties and yorkie puds were a bit dried out, serious need of gravy to bring them back to life, it was clean and it looks like we came near the end of the busy period as there were alot of people still there no one was queing for the carvey yet all the meat looked fresh and the addons were all well stocked including the gravy. one of the nice features of the Quay is its located at the end of the front and there's a really nice view of Dee estuary marshes and Wales, you can sit out on the large patio the price was good and the atmosphere faily chilled, the staff were polite and friendly, 4.5 out of 5

Just poor, I left a fair review last time of three stars maybe a little over a year ago, the 3* was due to the lovely staff. Once again the staff were brilliant and the service was great, the plates were cleared away quickly and everything was friendly. However, the food was awful..... Last time I made a review about how poor the carvery was and the food ordered from the menu was great after a third consecutive bad visit! Sadly there has been no improvement in the carvery, salty and just below par! But worse again the food we ordered off the menu was terrible, the kids goujons came out after my lads dessert did???? Fortunately my wife and daughter had left finished, I say finished, they chose to leave most of their dinner so they had the dessert between them. When mine and my lads food came out it was all edible that's all I can say about it, the chips were decent although I'd ordered a Yorkshire pud with the goujons, they brought out chips..... The burger was cremated and about as thick as my debit card, plus I'd paid extra to have a piece of chicken on it. The guy who brought it out was very apologetic and he went back and got the chicken for me (which had to be cooked). When he returned with it he gave me a £2 refund and apologised again...... Sadly the chicken was cold in the middle so it didn't get eaten either. I hate leaving negative reviews and we went back to the Quay despite how poor the food had been a year or so ago 😫 Once again the staff are all lovely and helpful but the food fell well short, I'm not sure we'll be giving them a fourth chance but when you spend close to £50 quid for a mid week meal out I kinda expect to enjoy it. I hope this is just a bad day for The Quays because customers deserve much more...

Visited this place today Sunday 18th December with the family. Found most of the staff rude especially the two old ones who wore glasses absolutely unbelievable attitude and just not welcoming at all.

The food was ok it wasn’t hot it was luke warm but the lads on the carvery were nice and had their carvery well presented just a shame it wasn’t hotter. When we had nearly finished the little old one was like jack flash and swooped on all the plates and drinks before my brother and father could inform her that They still hadn’t finished there drinks but of course it was to late because she was all over the table like an irritating fly and she had been since we arrived. I also seen another gentleman who was fed up with this member of staff and was annoyed at her attitude. He had asked to be moved with his family to a table with a bit more space but apparently he was asking to much and she refused them he said even though the table he asked for was still empty as they left so they could of been moved I just find it shocking that waiting on staff can have such an appalling attitude when dealing with customers again I must add there was a few youngish women there who were lovely including the one who had been there since the early morning covering santas breakfast with the kids she was great but the others need to find a job that does not make them so horrible with an attitude as it’s the last thing you need when going out for food. I would not recommend this place so spend your...

I went on a Monday early evening, and it was relatively quiet,so my friend and I were served quickly. We opted for the carvery, and for just under £10 each,it was quite good value, accompanied by an ice-cold larger shandy. They asked if i wanted 'small' or 'large' i thought this strange, untill i realised you do not get a full pint, hence the large or small instead of pint or half,it did irritate me,i have to admit, its the "mars bar effect",we all know they are half the size they used to be but no reduction in price. But we enjoyed our meal and the staff were friendly and very helpful. Another 'niggle' the meat portions continue to get smaller and smaller, they are literally less than half the size under the previous management and whilst there, several people commented on this, and it is becoming a bone of contention, any smaller and it could pass for a vegetarian meal,it is after all a "carvery",hence my 4 stars for food instead of 5,but if meat portions get any smaller it'll be a 3 for food. Afterwards, we sat outside and watched the sunset across the Dee. Very pleasant and would recommend. But mention to them how small the meat portions are and how irritating 'large' or 'small ' for draught beer...
