I visited Harrogate for an early seventieth birthday celebration. I'd asked a girl in the street for a good place to eat, she said "The Pickled Sprout", word of mouth had proven to be a good method and reliable source as I'd had our accommodation The Double Tree Hotel Majestic recommended by a girl barista in Costa Manchester, who had celebrated her twenty second birthday there. So a day later on the Sunday we looked up this pub. Great advice!....with the imagination to call a pub The Pickled Sprout, that person had to possess some originality in their thinking, and it occurred to me if this same originality was applied to the cuisine it augered well there'd be some pretty diverse dishes. Viewing the menu after escaping the Yorkshire heavy rain and grateful for refuge, this proved to be the case. Me and the missus chose mocktails of cucumber, mint, coconut water for an aperitif with ice, great choice. I opted for a lemon and thyme chicken on the bone roast dinner. Parboiled carrots, giant Yorkshire, white cabbage and extra thick gravy boat. What I really liked and right up my street, was the scalding hot food on ironware plate. I like hot food!!! Fabienne had Salmon, pressed potatoes, broccoli, she loves her veg! This is a great pub diner, really! Fabulous fayre. We even had a visit from the boss Benami, lovely guy, he asked us how we liked it, our response was truly positive. He goes about his culinary trade with passion, and his efforts to please the customers is blatantly obvious. Go there, spoil yourself, you'll be glad you...
Read moreI’m a regular here for Sunday lunch and usually don’t leave reviews, but after another fantastic meal last night, I felt I should share just how good this place is.
The Sunday lunch at The Pickled Sprout is one of our absolute favorites in Harrogate – beautifully presented, with lovely sides, the best cauliflower cheese, and unbeatable Yorkshire puddings.
Last night we came for dinner, and the food was absolutely stunning. Between the four of us, we tried the Twice Baked Hebden Goat’s Cheese Soufflé, Crispy Sweet Chilli Pork Belly, Wild Mushroom Bordelaise, and Baked Queenie Scallops – every single starter was delicious and presented so beautifully that we couldn’t resist taking photos.
For mains, all four of us had the Minute Sirloin Steak Frites (£21.95), served with coleslaw, shoestring fries, garlic & herb butter, and rocket (GF). Cooked perfectly, full of flavor, and beautifully presented again – it really was spot on.
The Garden Room at the front is a gorgeous setting to enjoy a meal, the staff are fantastic, and everything is so well run.
I can’t recommend The Pickled Sprout highly enough – whether for Sunday lunch or dinner, it’s always a brilliant experience and well...
Read moreMy friend and I were staying at the hotel and we decided to eat at The Pickled Sprout on our last night. There was no room in the restaurant so we had to sit in the bar. My friend ordered the fillet steak which cost around £34 and I ordered the garlic butter chicken. When his steak arrived, it was difficult to see it because it was so small. The two mushrooms on the plate were bigger! The plate was bulked out with a handful of rocket leaves and semi cooked tomatoes. My chicken breast was so small, it was a joke. I cut into my chicken to see it was pink and raw inside. The waiter took it back and I was told the chef agreed that the chicken was raw and pink inside. NOT GOOD ENOUGH!!! By the time I got my food back, I was put off and my friend had nearly finished his meal. No discount or complementary drink was offered for the inconvenience . Terrible. Not only that, We had to order our food at the bar and we were still charged the same as the diners in the restaurant which was waiter service! I don’t think that was at all fair. I will not be eating at The Pickled Sprout...
