I and a friend of mine went to Red Chili last week, and we have been going on an off for a very long-time, in fact all the staff know us personally.
We entered the restaurant and noticed, they were not busy and there were lots of tables unoccupied, we also looked up and noticed several staff who noticed we had entered but chose not to make eye contact, with us. We assumed they were busy and we walked to a free table, once we sat down the owner came to us and said “It would have been nice to be asked” we asked what do you mean? He told us in a very abrupt and rude manor “You should ask me before you sit down” We said we waiting you, and your staff completely ignored us, and given we are regular’s it would be fine to sit down at a tale especially given it was a Saturday night and you were not busy at all. We went on to tell him we have been coming here for a very long time, he did not care and was in a foul mood, and we went on to say even if we did ask you probably would have shown us the same table.
He told us to get out and we said, it’s a shame this is not very good customer service, and this is how you lose customers. Anyway, we got into a heated debate in the presence and hearing of other guests/customers and we got the impression they were with us on this one!
Real shame, just unbelievable outburst over something very trivial, the morale of the story, leave and find a better Indian restaurant and we did just 20 meters away called Papa J’s 😊
And the owner, if your reading this…. Then you should take note, that the free curtesy drinks you serve after the main meal should be thrown away, NOT recycled in to the bottle again for some other unsuspecting customer. I think this is defined as assault and I am very sure not only the Police but Luton Council would be very interested too!
Don't accept the free curtesy, you have...
Read moreI have given 2 stars only for the service and atmosphere due to our experience on 17th of March. I've delayed putting this review in as I needed to give some serious thought as to whether I should. As a family we have come to the Chillies since it opened I believe in 2008, so a very long time. We have always been treated with respect and the staff will always greet us by our names. In the main the service is excellent but on this particular occasion when there were 5 of us for a meal the service was appalling. We arrived at 17.45 and were seated immediately and while our drinks were brought quite quickly we didn't receive our starters until 1 hour and 15 min later( we did not have (poppadums') we waited another hour and a 1/2 before we received our mains with other diners receiving their meal and leaving the restaurant even though they had come in after us. We continuously tried to catch the eye of the waiters but they were clearly avoiding us and we were becoming to feel very uncomfortable. In the end my husband got up and approached the senior waiter who tried to avoid my husband as he approached him, he was extremely argumentative and rude about the time we waited. When our plates arrived ready for the meal they were stone cold and we had to ask for the usual hot ones which we received immediatly. Although the food was as always very good the whole evening was ruined , we felt demoralised and extremely uncomfortable and made to feel we were an inconvenience. This has happened before to us when there has been more than 2 of us so to date we have not been back (17th May) As I write this review I feel very upset that this was necessary. the excuse that was given on this occasion was because of their fasting the chef needed to stop and eat. It is a business so should be dealing with ways...
Read moreRacist and Ageist. Myself and my younger brother visited red chilli for a drink and a quick bite just before we went to play football on a Sunday evening. We were in all in shirts and ties as we were from a religious meeting. We asked for a table for 2 and were shown one where we settled.
We just wanted quick non alcoholic drinks and eight samosas. Initially while seated, the waited was brash and rude when the asked for clarification on what we were having. Because we were not having a main meal we were rudely interrupted and forcibly asked to move to a different area in the restaurant to stand and have our food. The was humiliating to myself and brother.
When we got to this standing area, I offered to pay for the drinks that had just been served, declined interest in a the samosas and leave. The bar staff offered to give us straws so that we can have our drinks in the streets. The bar staff at the till at that time was in support of the attendants behaviour. Their attitude was brazenly racist and ageist to a paying customer.
The restaurant is a disgrace to the fine multicultural community that Luton is and I will not want a repeat of that experience.
I am going to make an official complaint and hope something gets...
