Perhaps the worst dining experience of my life.
Me and my husband went into the restaurant as it looked inviting. Upon being seated, we had to wait a long time to order drinks. They had almost nothing available despite having a small menu. This is on a Monday evening. Initially, it seemed to be good value (2 courses 20 pounds) assuming that the restaurant would be a fine dining experience. It was not. The starter (meatballs) were fine. No seasoning mind you, and the meat was not great quality and had no evidence of being fried off. Possibly frozen. The mains were horrendous. My husbands pizza was lukewarm, soggy, with a pool of water sitting on the surface, presumably from the tinned chicken that has been hatefully slung atop the surface. Not even a grain of salt to season this miserable dish. Also covered in pine nuts for some reason? My main was supposed to be a sausage pasta with cheese/tomato sauce. Pasta was half cooked, sausage meat was minced into sand and tasted like dirt. Worse than value supermarket quality. It was also cold and completely unseasoned. Upon requesting the bill, the waitress (who I couldn't help but notice had no shoes on?) neglected to ask us how our food was and just placed the bill on the table and walked off. Nobody came back to take our payment we just had to leave eventually. Outside there was a dying pigeon behind a bin, who I can only assume had just dined at the...
Read moreBooked last minute for a Sunday dinner when friends visited. I phoned and spoke to Helen (manager) and asked if they could accommodate for a severe nut (tree nut and peanuts) allergy. Helen explained that all food is cooked fresh and they are confident with knowing what each dishes ingredients are and they will ensure clean utensils and work stations are used to prepare the allergy meal.
Helen advised her husband was the chef (as it's a family business!) And she would advise him of the allergy and also print a separate menu taking off the meals that contained nuts.
We arrived and had a lovely little table with plenty of space for a pram (thank you!). The waiters were fantastic and very attentive to our needs. They were well aware of the allergy and made us all feel very confident in their ability to manage the allergy request.
We had the roast beef dinner and the sticky toffee pudding. All I can say is, wow. It was hands down; The, Best, Sunday dinner I've ever had (sorry grandma). And the sticky toffee pudding was incredible!
My wife was shocked to know she could have the pudding (as she NEVER gets to eat one!) And equally loved all the food too.
I think we've found out new local and can't wait to go back!
Thank you Helen and team. Absolutely fantastic place and...
Read moreSo much potential but really disappointing. The menu is fantastic but delivery of those dishes is not. Ordered calamari and king prawns for starters. Prawns served on raw celeriac was a bit strange. They were also shrivelled up inside shell. Calamari was burnt - as in dark brown coating. Could taste oil it was cooked in has not been changed or filtered for a long time. The waiter who had so far seemed irritated by every customer, came to table and said ‘you not eating this’ we started to explain and he just shrugged, took plate and walked off. We decided to wait and give the mains a chance. These were better. We ordered calzone and a pasta dish. Flavours were good, pizza base taste nice and wood fired. We did find one waitress who was very helpful and understanding. She removed the starters from our bill and we happily paid for the rest. It felt like they knew, expected it. A good route forward would be to simplify the menu to great pizzas and a few pasta dishes. Do the simple things really really well before adding more complex dishes. Kendal needs good places to eat and you will still be busy if you do perfect but simple...
