We popped in for the first time after a cross country walk. We hadn't booked, but we did manage to get a table. We were lucky and I'd recommend booking. We were also really lucky because they were starting refurbishment works the following day! I'm not sure what it will look like in future, but if they can keep some of the quirky charm of the place, that would be good. The food was excellent. We had to wait a bit, but that was only because it was so busy. We had a couple of pub classics, steak and ale pie and ham egg and chips (see pics). Both were excellent examples. The menu is quite small but good. The specials board then adds some really interesting dishes which, from the ones we saw, looked fantastic. Pricing seemed more than reasonable for the quality of the food and drink and we look forward to seeing the refurbishment when...

A good, honest pub with a pleasant, natural atmosphere. Extensive, varied and good menu. Portions generous, but some dishes available in small and large 👍. Some dishes not available but that’s the price you pay for having proper food instead of a feeezer full of ready meals - no problem at all (although I hope the bean and beet burger is available next time!) Perfect level of friendly and attentive service without constantly being asked obsequiously if everything was alright! Dog-friendly. And there will be a ‘next time’, when the Hampshire and Bristol families meet halfway to celebrate something else! Some of us met here a few years ago and enjoyed it which is why we wanted to come back. Since then reading various posts the pub has had turbulent times. May 2025 and beyond see you succeed -...

We booked a function room for a wake. We checked that it was dog friendly. Having booked for 20 people, when we arrived we were put in a very small area with seating for 12 outside the kitchen with staff serving food having to squeeze past members of out party to deliver food to the rest of the pub. We were also told that the dog could not be in the area because we were outside the kitchens. Rather than being able to talk to each other to share memories of the deceased, we were constantly being moved to allow staff to walk through with food and dirty plates. We talked to the manager who was full of excuses tather than solutions and was of no help whatsoever. We are bitterly disappointed and it made an already...

We booked the Roebuck for a family meal, Sunday lunchtime. We were a table of 7 and between us, we had roast beef, chicken and pork and a vegetarian nut wellington. Massive homemade Yorkshire pudding!!! The food was piping hot when it arrived, plentiful in size and delicious. We decided we had a small space for a dessert and weren’t disappointed! Despite the pub being fully booked, our service was really good, very attentive staff and no complaints at all. Would highly recommend the pub for food and will be back. Thank you for looking after us.

I'm visiting my son over Christmas in a small town in Wiltshire. As my son was away seeing his mates one evening, I decided to visit the Roebuck one evening, but it was impossibly busy. As the pub is 0.4 miles from my son's place, I visited again around lunch. I live in Germany in Frankonia, where the food there is something like a schaufelerTraditional English food for me is ham, eggs and chips. So I ordered Wiltshire ham, eggs, and chips, with an extra egg. I ordered Old Camden Town Hell simply because it sounded like Helles.
