It's taken me a while to post a review because we are still reeling from the experience we had at this restaurant. Booked for a family meal before Christmas and while we were there my lovely Mum suffered a fatal stroke and when the paramedics were in attendance and we were waiting for the ambulance, the bill for the food we had ordered( but not received) was presented to us in a very belligerent manner. Realise that they had started cooking it but the comment that we should pay and come back for it later which as Mum died later in the hospital, was so heartless and the callous attitude of the staff while she was lying on the floor being treated, was beyond contempt. I will add that Mum's stroke was not as a result from anything she had eaten or drunk from the restaurant but that's the only saving grace. Everyone we have told about this is appalled. We did pay obviously and would have recompensed them anyway but it would have been nice to have been shown some sympathy and kindness, rather than complete indifference to our...
Read moreFood is excellent, beware VAT scam... The manager is a difficult man who ruined the evening out with friends. There were rules about what we could and couldn't order which was difficult to understand, but fine, we complied and had an excellent meal (portions on small side). However the bills (we had two tables) had an extra 20% added to them labelled as VAT. Manager insisted in a very bullish aggressive way that this is pefectly normal practice, and that we needed to pay service on top of this extra 'VAT' charge. If it was a genuine misunderstanding on the restaurant's part on how VAT works and should be charged I don't think he would have been so ready to anger and insults from the start of us asking what it was about. We paid our 'VAT' charge to end the distressing confrontation (not used to this kind treatment in any situation). The other table did not and the confrontation continued.
Really blighted the evening and quite frankly my experience of Marlbough as a result, not sure I'll be rushing back...
Read moreI have been in the UK for more than 20 years now. Being originally from India, I never had a great experience in any Indian cuisine restaurant here in the UK. They all try to bring a weird taste to Indian cuisine thinking that would cater well to British and migrated Asian palate better. But I have to admit that I had an amazing experience and joy when I visited The Zaika Inn at Marlborough last week. The food is simply mind-blowing! You can rarely get this sort of fabulous food even in extremely high-end 5 star hotels and restaurants in India. The taste, presentation and quality of service was exemplary. The menu is so original and food is prepared with fresh, authentic spices. I even had the privilege of talking to the owner and Chef, Mr Biswas. He is such a passionate restaurateur. His love for cooking and serving his customers is easily palpable and that is the USP of The Zaika Inn. I strongly recommend this restaurant to all. If you have not visited this place then you have not tasted 'real'...
