I’m usually not petty enough to write bad reviews however, today I was made to feel extremely uncomfortable and was appalled. As we entered the restaurant we were immediately met with a hostile energy as we weren’t greeted with even a friendly hello; instead two older people behind the bar staring us down uncomfortably. I assume these were the owners. So I felt it appropriate to ask “Hi, are we okay to just sit anywhere?” with the lady behind the bar responding in a condescending manner saying “Yes if you’re actually buying a drink”. We then sat down outside, looked at the menu and I had said that I felt uncomfortable and would not be particularly comfortable going up to the bar to order as I felt judged and belittled. We looked at the menu and also realised that we didn’t really fancy anything on it. That’s when we decided to get up to leave, which is a pretty normal thing for people to do. As we were leaving the older lady behind the bar turns to us to say in a mocking fashion “So much for that drink then”. I found this incredibly rude so I responded by saying “Why are you being so rude, as soon as we walked in your presence was not welcoming and your attitude was the main reason we decided to go”. The man behind the bar also said “This is a restaurant not somewhere to come and doss around”. This was absolutely not something we were coming to do as we just wanted to sit and eat some food but instead we were met with hostility and rudeness. I felt this all occurred as they stereotyped us based on our age - assuming that young adults would only come to an establishment like this to mess about, when in fact we genuinely came in search of a place to sit down and eat. With the comment made when we were walking out and the reception we received when I was just trying to be polite, I am very glad we did not give our money to this business and these...
