The quintessential "local Indian" but not for those looking for proper Indian food. Ideal for ten years ago for pallets who prefer Indian style food tailored to pallets who don't want to stray too far away from British food or the ambience. Definitely not for you if you are looking for authentic food from India. More so if you are from India yourself. Starters (chicken tikka + fish) were unseasoned + undercooked - not value for money. The mains - Paneer korma had coconut curry and sweeter than most Kormas I have eaten. Chicken biryani is what I would best describe as masala rice with pieces semi cooked chicken - only a shadow of the real biryani. The sides - we asked for a cucumber raita, only to be served plain yogurt on top of Cucumber shavings.
The saving grace? Ultra friendly staff who patiently waited on us with a friendly word of advise on dishes not meant for the Asian tongue 😇 The quality was also apparent with clearly repeat customers surrounding us.
All in all, ideal if you are looking for what used to be the definition of the "local Indian" a decade ago. Strongly avoid if you are looking for the contemporary definition - authentic Indian restaurant that serves it like it is done in India. For those us seeking to be reminded of our homes, there are better...
Read moreLet me start off with me and my girlfriend eat out in restaurants very regularly so we know good service when we see it, this place hands down offers the best service I have ever received, the team are on hand for anything you want or need. Honestly nothing is to much for them, everyone is very friendly and welcoming, kush talked me and my girlfriend through all the ingredients on the chutney board and explained where everything came from and how it was made which I personally thought was above and beyond, me and my girlfriend like to get our starters as side dishes with our mains which means we wouldn’t fit on a 2 person table but they are more then happy to accommodate and put us on a 4 seater table so there’s enough room for everything we have ordered, the food is literally the best Indian food in the Berkshire area, we travel from the far side of reading to get here, trust me when I say me and. girlfriend have tried them all and this place puts every other Indian restaurant to shame, I literally cannot describe how good this place is ,kush and all the team are amazing and will be seeing us again soon, thank you for making us feel so welcome -from...
Read moreUnfortunately, this was not a great experience. Been to the Tamarind Tree many years ago and sadly the quality of food has taken a significant dive. The crowds may lead you to think otherwise though as the restaurant was packed. Prices are around £14 per dish, yet the portion sizes leave you wanting. I'm ok with that if the food is great, but it was not. Somewhat bland, overcooked and one dish using lots of food colouring (always a concern for me). Lots of curry sauce and not much meat or fish. On the positive side, service was good.
Sadly, not the same as it used to be. We won't be back. Too many better options in Wokingham now providing better quality Indian food and...
