We booked a table here the other night for 5.30 and we had the fish pie and lamb shank and a pint. Food arrived in good time. The portion sizes were huge and very tasty and only just fit on the plates. The food was definitely warm enough as it took a while to cool to eating temperature. The Fish pie had lots of fish and prawns in it aswell as a really delicious sauce and creamy mashed potato. The lamb shank was large and very tasty. Nice friendly staff. Very reasonable prices and good beer. Decor had a nice old fashioned pub charm which unfortunately you don't see anymore with bistro ponsy pubs everywhere. Not sure where all the negative reviews of this pub are from, probably by miserable customers who expect royal service and silver tableware but don't want to pay the price for it. Would highly recommend this family run pub.

Cracking little place. This is definitely one to visit, it's like stepping back in time. A beautiful building with beams and small windows, but opens up inside to a deceptively large pub. Great food offering available and really well priced. Three real ales on and the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. Toilets are clean and tables still being wiped down after each customer leaves. Couple of single step raises in the pub, for anyone less mobile to be aware of, but go, have a pint you won't be disappointed.

It’s a lovely quirky place and really nice staff. This is what it is, cheap and cheerful pub grub. Don’t expect amazing, it’s very reasonably priced and has a 5 star food hygiene rating. I had lasagna and chips which was nice, kids had chicken nuggets (only a fiver) and Mrs had scampi! All decent. Staff were friendly and welcoming!

The food was terrible. The pub opened at 13:00 and were not taking food orders until 13:30, so we got a drink and some crisps. The bar maid was lovely and welcoming. We ordered the food at 13:32. After 35 mins our food came to the table, firstly a steak pie and chips. The colour of the chips was non existent. The carrots and veg were overcooked and cold, next a cheese burger served upside down that looked rustled up again with white chips (rustlers looked better) then fish fingers (browny grey fish) over cooked and curled like overgrown fingernails and again white chips. A browny grey ‘cod’ and chips and a stone cold steak pudding served squashed. It really was not edible. Oh and the sachets of sauce were out of date.

The way the food is priced you expect it to be fresh and, the bar maid looked embarrassed but not shocked. Upon seeing the cook stick her finger in the pie in the kitchen saying it was hot I had to comment, (of course being an old chef I can’t help myself and she clearly doesn’t like chefs) sadly she did not take my words kindly and asked us to leave once we had finished our drinks. We paid for our drinks and crisps and nuts and left as we were not made to feel welcome.

Instead of just holding your hands up and admitting you are wrong you launch a personal attack, instead of saying you are not bothered take the advice of professionals or members of the public. Instead of coming back with childish I don’t care and looking pathetic with your responses, show some good customer service. People trust honesty not attacks.

It’s a shame as I have nice pint of bitter. But that’s it.

Luckily we found a nice cafe with great food at a reasonable price so my kids...

Ordered food... took over 1 hour to come. Their excuse was that the curry takes a long time to cook... the veg in the balti was still raw. The kids sausages looked aneamic and the steak pie was freezing. Took it back and complained. They must have warmed it in the microwave and put a bit of extra gravy on top. The pastry had gone soggy. Gave it to the dog as was inedible. Staff weren't the friendliest either. We were given a ÂŁ10 refund for food that cost over ÂŁ30 (not including drinks). Went to the local co op and bought a frozen pizza. Really disappointed.

In response to your reply... the baby was asleep for over an hour while we were waiting for food. She most certainly was not the problem!! Your whole attitude is disgusting!!! Call yourselves a family pub?? Wow!! I've never written a review and certainly not moaned... there was another review for the same day who complained about the staff also. I could have said alot worse but I actually...

Very rude barman basically judged us the second we walked in and ordered hot drinks almost like it wasn't worth their time. I'm not sure how many people go in there at 2pm on a Thursday and order booze but to say we were the only ones there you'd think they'd be more accommodating regardless of our order. We sat down waited around 10 minutes only for the guy who I presume owns it to come around the corner and very rudely tell us this part of the pub wasn't open and we had to move. There was no sign to tell people this or he never mentioned it when we walked in, his excuse was there were no lights on in that part of the pub when there was a light on about 3 feet from where we were sitting and the pub was dark and dingy everywhere so we didn't realise. No apology or reason behind it just basically a get up and move. We've come to a pub 2 minutes down the road (the craven heifer) and everyones lovely so my advise is to come...
