The room is well decorated BUT that’s it.
TLDR; 2 ppl passing by West Bay and decided to stay for one evening. If you are considering staying here, you probably need to think twice.
Ground floor: Bar/Restaurant First floor: 3 guest rooms Second floor: stating “private”
Stayed at Deluxe Double Room upstairs (£155 including brekkie). Bar itself is great with various drink options with reasonable prices and staff (gentleman in glasses) is accommodating and patient with our questions - as this is our first visit.
Things went south from 10pm.
10pm: Already in bed with food coma and preparing to sleep.
11pm - 2am: Constant stomping, dragging furnitures and dropping things (note: 2nd floor stating “private” so as a guest you don’t have access + there is no evening front desk to report the issue). The stomping is harder than Manchester police.
The water pipe located next to our bed was constantly on and I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a whole football team taking turn having showers.
At this point we didn’t know where exactly the noise coming from so I had to knock on next door just to check with guests next to us to see what happened (continue reading, we aligned the encounter next morning when check-out). After speaking with them, we realised the stomping and dragging noise were clearly from upstairs.
3am: Luckily I had a pair of earplug which granted my partner a few hours sleep. (He has to drive 6hrs next day). I’m just lying there waiting for the dawn.
4am-7am: Finally some peace and quiet.
8am: Stomping and noise are back. Went downstairs twice hoping any luck to find a staff to address the issue.
At 8.45am I discussed the noise issue with the only onsite staff member.
“What issues?” (Literally 2 words)
I explained the stomping and water pipe (just within 3 sentences) but she abruptly stopped me, “There’s no stomping. We will see you at breakfast.”
9.30am: Breakfast is good I cannot complain (compared to a sleepless night)
11am: My partner met the guests next to us (they were with kids) and they had exactly the same encounter as we did. We all looked tired and under-slept. When my partner did the check out and address the noise issue again, the response is “We cannot do anything” from the same lady. When we asked if we could extend 2hr parking at their parking lot so we can at least walk around the bay before going, “No, you have to pay the parking as soon as you checked out”
—————
Honestly, we would totally understand if any staff staying upstairs/ just give us a heads up in advance, instead of “denying what happened”.
“There’s no stomping” - then why the guests next to us also heard that? Is this 18th century Inn still haunted? Are we all having hallucination?
“There’s 3 hotels nearby so you might hear water from other building” - yes hun, only if 3 hotels all using the same pipe line which located next to our bed.
I can recommend the bar but if you are thinking of staying here - The only £155 worth of deluxe (be expected) are rudeness...
Read moreRoom clean, spacious and comfortable, although it was quite warm. Evening meal good and served by very polite and friendly young man. However Breakfast was a massive disappointment. We were asked to pre-book our breakfast when we arrived the evening before. We noted there was several cooked options but no mention of cereals; fresh fruit; fruit juice yoguart toast etc. When I questioned this, the young girl behind the bar wasnt sure as to what breakfast items were available. I didnt pursue the issue further. We assumed all would be available at breakfast and simply ordered our cooked breakfasts on the form provided. Next day breakfast was served - there were no cereals; fresh fruit or fruit juice or yogarts on show. We had to ask for fruit juice and cereals as they were not offered. We were advised there were two flavours available - apple and orange juice so we ordered accordingly. We asked for cereals and were advised that as the breakfast had been cooked for a specific time, that it was on its way and that actually there wasnt much in, in the way of cereals and all that was available was Special K and something else (cant remember what). However it was clear that these would not be forthcoming as breakfast was on its way. The cost of the band b for one night with our dog was £148.50, (which we had to pay within minutes of our arrival) plus we had spent £90 on our evening meal and drinks in the establishment. On reflection I really think we were robbed with regards to this breakfast particularly on reading past reviews where it appears customers had had a choice of cereals/toast/marmalade etc (toast and marmalade were also not offered) and one customers dog had a breakfast each morning! No wonder the British hospitality sector is going down the drain and of course as we had had to pay the cost of our stay within minutes of our arrival there was no room for re-negotiation of the price. My husband`s birthday treat was at best a...
Read moreI was so disappointed by the way we were treated by the staff and landlord. First time in West Bay and a case of mistaken identity saw my family kicked out and refused service. Whats worse is the manner the matter was dealt with. A rather imposing lady bellowed at my husband across the garden for other people to hear rather than discussing the matter in a civil manner. I will add the landlord stood behind the woman like a coward rather than deal with the matter himself. We were accused of causing a scene in another pub the day before (The George), which we had never even been in but our reasoning was ignored and we were ejected along with my children and our friends. I was absolutely mortified as we have never been treated like this before. We visited The George for clarification and they offered us an apology for the case of mistaken identity and promised to call The West Bay Hotel to clear the matter up. Whether they did or didn't is of no consequence, we will not be visiting again and we happily spent our money at The Bridport Arms which I highly recommend for lovely service and amazing food. I will also add that we had visited The West Bay Hotel the day before and spoke to staff and Landlord for some time and all in good spirits. We reminded the landlord of this, and he refused to acknowledge our visit the day before which I find difficult to believe as we were the only people in there and the landlord himself served us our...
