The Yard — Restaurant in England

Stopped off here on an unplanned trip to Hereford looking for a quick bite to eat and good beer. Cheaply done but a unique riot bar vibe which was right up my street after walking past too many typical chain restaurants and pub grub type places. I was lucky to get seated as even on a mid week evening it was very busy with lots of groups enjoying food and drinks but I didn't feel uncomfortable being alone. Service was a little muddled as I was originally seated at a table which had been pre-booked and so I was asked to move - which wasn't a problem except you order via QR code to your table so my drink order was hugely delayed - 10+ minutes for half a pint seems a lot. Although I was told this was due to a backlog and nothing to do with being moved which is perhaps worse! Menus were a little confusing due to there being multiple mini businesses within the yard although the upside to this is plenty of variety for food styles, however the entire menu was extremely lacking in vegan options. Fantastic hidden away behind the Burger Shop & Book shop. Large outdoor area with cover & heaters, plenty of seating for couples & groups and a lovely vibe! The menu choice includes, burgers, pizza, ramen, tapas & some traditional mains. There is a bar area to order your drinks, then just grab a table, scan the QR code and order what you want from the menus. Service was a little slow but it was Saturday night & very busy so the wait for us was around 25mins but I did see other orders coming through more quickly. Music was at a nice volume so the sound of chatter was louder. Really lovely place & would definitely return. We ordered burgers from The Burger Shop which were delicious, together with the sweet potato & skin on Rosemary fries with garlic paprika dip!! The food and atmosphere here is usually very good but our meal was ruined by the presence of some very drunken men who were swearing and shouting at some women on the others side of the restaurant. Two families got up before ordering and we had to leave before finishing our meal as our granddaughter was upset and frightened ( we also shocked and intimidated) but the antisocial behaviour as it was only 6pm.

The staff on duty were very young and not equipped to deal with this effectively.

If the yard is attracting this sort of clientele they will need to employ security to deal with individuals who do not know how to behave.
