Read moreA history spanning over 1300 years. It has been the seat of a bishopric since at least the 7th century, with the current structure largely dating back to the 12th century Norman or Romanesque period. The cathedral is renowned for its architectural features, including a cruciform plan, a crossing tower, and a nave of eight bays. Absolutely amazing architecture, could have spent the whole day here. The Cathedral itself is FREE to enter. The cathedral houses the Hereford Mappa Mundi, a 13th-century world map, and the Chained Library, one of the largest of its kind, containing manuscripts dating back to the 8th century. All of it was amazing, and would definitely recommend it if you're in the area and interested in this sort of thing. We were able to take are DOG into the cathedral, (they have only just started letting dogs in, and she was in her pushchair) but she wasn't allowed in the other sections, so we just took it in turns, as there was plenty to see....
