Easily one of the best Indian restaurants in England! Excellent food and a wide array of dishes in the menu. More than a handful of vegetarian options to choose from for a very satisfying and healthy meal. Crowded with customers late into the night, yet quite well managed. A good setting for a group celebration event, relaxing family meal or romantic dinner.
Just one catch during the experience at Village Spice that resulted in my rating it with 4 stars instead of a full 5. If I had the option, I would rate it 4.5 stars really. This is what happened: When asked whether we would like to order pappadoms as starters while deciding on the main course, we agreed on having one pappodom each (me and my husband). We were pleasantly surprised when the waiter arrived with the plate of pappadoms and a nice variety of dips for it saying, "I'm giving you three pappadoms" with a winning smile, in a tone and expression that implied the extra serving as complimentary. But it was only a ruse. The bill was charged for three pappadoms, we had ordered only two, we didn't ask for the third. Agreed it's only a small additional charge, but certainly not praiseworthy professionalism.
Everything else was perfect. Would love to visit again. The food was...
Read moreHaving just moved into the area, my wife and I decided to order a take away from our new local Indian. Having read the previous reviews, we were convinced it was worth a try. Having eaten Indian food for the last 45 years, we can honestly say this was the worst Indian food we had ever eaten. Considering there were no customers in the restaurant, and they seemed decidedly quiet, the food was decidedly bland, no spice, and very little flavour and despite only a 5 minute drive home, the food was ALL cold. My wife and I agreed, the food was akin to supermarket Indian, which had been microwaved, certainly not freshly cooked. We are certainly believers in trying to support local businesses in these difficult times, but we will certainly be giving this establishment...
Read moreI ordered a takeaway directly from Village Spice in order to avoid them paying commissions to Just Eat. I also arranged my own pick up to save them the trouble. The online price came to £26.04 with discount, and without delivery charges. On arrival I was charged £32.55. They argued that this was the proper price and the online price was wrong. In addition their web site and leaflet say that any order over £25 with collection gets a free large bottle of coke. This was not forthcoming either - they said they'd got none!!! Pathetic service, honesty and to top it off, the meal was at best average. Lal Quila down the road is significantly better. Give these boys a miss, they don't deserve our custom.I've also just read a very similar review, so this...
