We have stayed in York many times in the last few years and decided this time to travel by train rather than the long drive. We have stayed in lots of hotels and air bnb’s and this time decided to try the dairy guest house. We had room two with the lovely bay window over looking the front and the room was beautifully decorated, very comfortable and had everything we needed for our two night stay. The bathroom was tiny but for a short stay was perfectly adequate for our needs. The property is a 15 minute walk to the city centre, so very well located, there are some nice shops, cafe’s, restaurants and bars in the Bishy Rd parade which is literally on the doorstep. The reason for my rating is just based on how we felt, we have always felt wholeheartedly welcomed wherever we have stayed in the area. Perhaps it is us, so please don’t let us put you off, but we felt like we weren’t really wanted. On the first morning we arrived at breakfast at our allotted time, the service was good but not friendly. I mentioned quietly, as these things do happen, that my sausage wasn’t cooked and was raw in the middle. There was no apology or can I get you something else, it was just taken away. It doesn’t matter but then the following morning I felt there was an atmosphere. The guest house is managed in a rather draconian way with strict rules for check in time, needing to choose exact time and content of breakfast the day before, none of it a big deal but not what we are used to. So would I recommend the Dairy Guest house, well yes of course I would based on location and comfort but do not expect your host to be warm and welcoming. Overall we had a nice time but would not choose to...
Read moreBooked this b&b last minute and what a little gem it was! Very good value for money with breakfast and parking included, The Dairy is in a great location too. |Don’t be put off by the frontage, a very warm welcome awaits from Mike and parking is available just along the road. We had room 2 overlooking the front and it was surprisingly quiet and nicely furnished and decorated. Small en-suite but very good shower. |Unfortunately the wooden Kingsize 4 poster bed although impressive does creak with every movement and the new Emma mattress we didn’t find very comfortable. |Plenty of tea coffee biscuits and chocolates provided. Breakfast was great, Mike is an expert at poached eggs! Breakfast room was nice and relaxed and we felt very comfortable at The Dairy. |Some nice shops and eateries in the immediate area or you can walk into city centre in 15 minutes. |Really enjoyed our York stay as so much...
Read moreQuaint and charming, our stay at the bed and breakfast just outside of York's city walls was delightful. The cozy atmosphere welcomed us as soon as we stepped through the door. Our room was beautifully decorated and offered a comfortable night's rest after a day of exploring the city. The breakfast spread in the morning was delicious, with a variety of options to suit every taste. The friendly staff made us feel right at home and provided helpful tips for navigating the area. Only a 10 minute walk to the city it felt part of the city without having to pay the extra for the pleasure! We enjoyed an early morning walk along the wall one one morning before breakfast and really made the most of the stay here. Overall, a lovely experience that added to our...
