We decided to try Wendy's for a birthday celebration having been to the American version years before.
Walking in it is immediately apparent that there is a big lack of seating, the layout very sparse. We struggled to get a table together and then had to share small tables.
For the Suze of the place, there were only 4 screens to order from, one of which was broken. There were some nice sounding burgers, but whilst the prices seem reasonable, as you go through the extras are pretty expensive - £1.50 to add bacon and £2.30 to upgrade to cheese and bacon chips!
When the order finally arrived, we were missing an item and had to ask for it. We got back to the table and then couldn't tell from the packaging whose was whose. We had to open each one and realised that the first burger was missing the extra bacon paid for. We then realised a second burger was missing its extra cheese portion. Having gone back the second time (with this being the third thing wrong with the order), my husband asked to speak to the manager to get it sorted. He was very young and inexperienced. He offered him some frosty's, which my husband said we already had and he then just stared blankly back at him.
Another think I didn't like was the drinks being self service. After sorting all the issues with the food out, we had to then get our own drinks, leaving our food to get even colder.
In fairness, the food was really tasty. The fries were particularly nice. My burger was nice, but very messy. It was also the only burger choice for a vegetarian - a curry burger. It was thankfully not too spicy, but not what I would choose given the choice.
Towards the end of the meal a young staff member came over and said that as we were a large party, would we like a free frosty for filling in a review. We agreed and she asked how many phones we had, then what flavour. She then came back with 5 mini frosty's and 5 receipts with a QR code. We were told that we had to fill them in with 5 stars across the board and say that we hadn't had any problems. I questioned this and said that we had and she said that she is on probation and if she didn't get enough 5 star reviews she would lose her job. I felt pressured into giving her the stars as this is an awful situation to put your staff in, so despite disagreeing completely with it, we filled it in for her sake as requested. I am not sure whether this is legal, but it is certainly immoral, so despite what we felt forced to put, we certainly won't be going back...
Read moreWent here a few times and now we will never go again , from instantly placing an order in the drive through was an absolute nightmare.
The lass on the service was so miserable on arriving gave us our frosties and miserable as you can imagine told us to park up so we did , 20 mins later we realised the other 3 cars had been over half an hour waiting and went in to see if their order was closed to been done only to be met with a bad attitude by staff. We went back through the drove through another 10 mins later to see the driver getting out of his car to see where his order was after waiting 45 mins only to be ignored so he had to go in leaving us stuck in the drive through in the same position as him and the others.
By this time the frosties had melted and when we finally got service at the window the attitude of the manager was the same as his staff.
Anyhow the frosties got replaced 15 mins later along with our order what was missing items such as the chicken Caesar salad had no sauce and was just chicken and lettuce the baconator meal was reinforced with bacon that was like concrete and a complete mess , the children's 2 meals was burnt so much that my son's didn't even eat it ....some 6th birthday treat my son got and he was looking so forward to it too and has said he don't ever want to go again
The extra bacon fries we got was also cold and hardly any topping on can't believe how poor this place was when it was so nice to start off with
The place has gone down hill so quick and the way everyone's service was this evening we won't be the only ones giving this place a miss and can't see it staying open.
We even said to the manager why didn't you just say it's a while wait to get a reply was we don't tell people of there is a long wait and my staff don't turn up .......well no wonder with you at...
Read moreOrdered a Dave's Double, 8 piece spicy nuggets, fries, and a fountain drink which I refilled and added lime to, a policy I hope they retain as none of the other big restaurants permit it. Even on a busy day, my food was served hot and within 5 minutes of placing my order. If they keep this standard of food and service up, in a decade or so Wendy's could pose a serious threat to the Big Three.
However, one thing I will complain about is the nature of ordering and then consuming said order. Couldn't find any cash tills and I'm guessing this was a conscious design choice, albeit a short-sighted one at that for those who swear by cash transactions. Many patrons are visiting the restaurant for the first time and do not know what they want, because Wendy's might be a 55 year old franchise in Septicland, but it's their first year here. The touchscreen's insistence on turning every menu item into a meal is also quite annoying and wastes unnecessary time.
There is a lot of wasted space in the dining area. Either Wendy's needs to hire someone to clear people off of tables who don't need them, or they need more tables and chairs. This will certainly be a problem on days they exceed capacity. This is supposed to be the largest Wendy's in the world, after all. They do have outdoor seating but in January this isn't really an option.
Furthermore, I expected the "arcade" to be a bit more than just some typical carnival games and a pre-requisite shoot 'em up for Sega's approval. Put in a mint-condition Sega Rally, Outrun or Afterburner cabinet and you'll have no trouble securing my lunch choice 26 times a year.
Other than those problems, a tremendous start. Jameson Street and the immediate surrounding area is the obvious place for a second location once things properly get...
