I haven't been to Zizzi in a while, and after today I remembered why. Initially service was OK, nothing special. We went for a garlic bread to share and two soft drinks to start, then a pizza and a pasta dish for main. Garlic bread was nice, a little thin on the mozzarella but OK. Pizza was nothing special but cooked OK, pasta wasn't cooked long enough, still dry and stuck together in places but the sauce was nice. Decided on a dessert each and the calzone was really nice and well worth the price, the special cheesecake was.. Well not too special. Quite a small portion and not too much flavour. Service throughout the meal was OK, but towards the end it slipped as several tables where going to the till to pay as they couldn't wait any longer. Would I go back? Maybe if there where limited other options available.
Update: visited again on a Sunday early evening, the place was very quiet and that should have been a warning.
Initially we were greeted by a gentleman that I assumed was actually a customer. Not very well dressed, and nothing indicating he actually worked there. He seemed very awkward when seating us with a high chair and stood around looking very uncomfortable when getting ourselves sat down with our toddler. We placed out order with the server (as the mobile ordering didn't work as it didn't recognise the table), and waited. The drinks were placed in front of out toddler which isn't the smartest option since they want to grab everything they can, but we managed to get to them before she grabbed the glasses.
While we waited for out foot we asked another server if we could add a garlic bread to our order and we understand that due to the delay in us adding this it wouldn't arrive with the main meal.
The mains arrived and although we stated which meal should go where the server managed to mix it up (not sure how). The food was really nice though.
We finished our meal and we waited a while for the toddler to finish theirs and still no sign of the garlic bread. So as our plates were being taken away, I queried it with the staff member and asked if it was going to be much longer and if so, could it be put into a takeaway box. As we had been here about 70 mins as this point and didn't want to wait around much longer. 10 mins later we saw the same server at the till adding a garlic bread while talking to another member of staff saying the additional item wasn't added.
We waited around 15 mins longer for the garlic bread to arrive, and it was dumped on our table and the sever left instantly without any comment. At this point we were ready to pay and leave but couldn't get any of the staffs attention to pay. Several minutes later we decided to start packing up. Once our coats were on they finally started paying attention and asked if we wanted to pay.
The service was appalling, and while the food was nice it wasn't worth having to deal with that level of incompetent service staff. I worked in hospitality for years and never came across this level of...
Read moreOne of the worst restaurant experiences I've ever had. I dined with a large party on Friday 16 November and was asked to provide my order in advance. I was advised when I arrived that the lamb would not be available and I was asked to choose something else, which I did.
When my starter arrived (Wild Boar Polpette), the plate was scorching hot and the "sauce" had dried up due to it being left in the oven for too long, so the polpette was very dry indeed. By the time I finished my starter we had still not been served any drinks.
I ordered the pork belly in place of the lamb and I was one of the last to be served. The dish is supposed to come with garlic mashed potatoes, however I was actually given new potatoes. Once again, there was no sign of any sauce as described on the menu. As well as the meal not being as described on the menu, I wasn't served until the rest of the people I was dining with had already finished their main meals.
When I complained to a member of staff called Leo, he apologised and said he would provide me with a voucher to make up for the disappointment I had experienced. When we were leaving I looked for Leo to ask about the voucher, however another member of staff told me that he had gone home for the night.
My dining experience at Zizzi was disappointment after disappointment and I really regret paying for the meal and leaving a tip. I would highly advise other groups to find somewhere else to dine, as the staff here are not capable of looking after a large group, or providing what you have ordered. Avoid...
Read moreReally rubbish visit. Everything I ordered had something wrong. My main pasta dish - I was told they had no spinach. My side dish (supposed to be broccoli and kale cooked in garlic) - I was told they had no kale. And when it came, there was no hint of garlic, just plain boiled broccoli. The dessert I asked for - nope, they didn't have it. And my daughter's kid's starter was missing tomatoes that were advertised on the menu. And at the end of all this, not even a hint of a discount or taking anything off the bill for not providing what was on the menu.
Service was poor. We were served by four different people, which to me is indicative of no real plan by the management - no one server owned our table. We were left to seek their attention when we wanted to order anything more like dessert. My daughter's two scoops of ice cream took 20 minutes to arrive and only came immediately after I asked where it was (forgotten?). My daughter even asked if they were making the ice cream from scratch (she's six). After asking for the bill (should be a hint we want to pay), no one came over with the card machine till we asked if we could pay 15 minutes later.
Overall, the food itself (what they had of it) tasted fine, but service was really really bad. I won't blame any individual server, it's more indicative of really poor management not really organising the staff nor keeping on top of their stock.
I'd suggest you avoid the place, as there are lots of other good restaurants and cafes to...
